Reporting to the Manager, Maintenance and Asset Management, The Superintendent, Reliability & Asset Health – Mechanical plays a pivotal role in improving the performance, reliability, and longevity of both fixed plant and mobile mechanical assets at Highland Valley Copper. This role leads the development and optimization of maintenance strategies, supports root cause failure analyses, and drives initiatives that reduce downtime, enhance asset availability, and lower lifecycle costs. Working across maintenance, planning, execution, and operations, the Superintendent applies strong field experience and technical expertise in reliability practices to ensure the long-term health of critical assets.
In addition to leading and refining key processes, this role is instrumental in aligning Plant and site-wide priorities. This role plays a key part in driving high-quality results from the reliability team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and continuous improvement of reliability strategies and maintenance tactics for fixed (e.g., crushers, conveyors, pumps) and mobile equipment (e.g., 793, 4100, D10, 24M).
- Promote a safety-first culture by integrating risk-based maintenance (RBM), RCM, and asset criticality assessments.
- Optimize asset performance, reduce downtime, and maintain accurate SAP asset data, BOMs, and maintenance plans.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for mechanical systems, providing guidance on failure modes, preventive maintenance, and condition monitoring.
- Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and ensure follow-up actions are implemented.
- Develop and maintain Standard Task Procedures (STPs); identify critical spares and system constraints.
- Analyze and improve reliability metrics (MTBF, MTTR, availability, bad actor elimination).
- Collaborate with maintenance teams, planners, vendors, and advisors to implement improvements and support audits and technology upgrades.
- Work cross-functionally with trades, planners, and operations to align strategies with execution capability.
- Mentor and support Reliability Advisors and junior staff.
- Provide coverage for other reliability functions as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field; P.Eng designation and technical certifications (CMRP, CRL, etc.) are assets.
- Eligible for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC); employer support available.
- 10+ years of reliability or mechanical maintenance experience in mining, heavy industry, or oil & gas.
- 8+ years in a reliability leadership role, with a proven record of implementing successful strategies and improvements.
- Proficient in SAP PM and CMMS systems.
- Skilled in mechanical drawings, P&IDs, OEM documentation, and technical writing.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
