Job Summary / Objective
We are looking for a talented, driven individual with a passion for creating and supporting the creation of new and innovative designs in the marine industry. This position is in a fast paced, dynamic team of designers and engineers with a comfortable working environment at our Canadian headquarters in Acheson, Alberta, Canada.
The Designer 1 / Junior Engineer / Drafter will utilize advanced CAD techniques in Solidworks to develop complex design models, BOMs & drawings utilizing theoretical and practical design knowledge that meet company and industry standards. Understanding of materials and manufacturing methods is a plus but not essential. Training and support will be provided.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Prioritize a collaborative thinking mindset. Be a “sponge”. A willingness to learn and to consider diverse perspectives is a must for the successful candidate.

Must have at least 1 year experience with using Solidworks.

Prepare 3D models and engineering drawings consisting of complex arrangements, layouts, & assemblies according to established drawing standards and procedures. Interpret and ensure conformance to applicable standards, codes, and company policies and procedures.

Experience with Adobe suite of products is an asset. Used for packaging design, consumer instructions, concept presentations etc..

Conduct and/or participate in research, design, development and testing of mechanical hardware to include component modeling/analysis and tolerance analysis for designated products and/or customer applications.

Work closely with Engineers and other disciplines to ensure coordinated system designs.

Develop and design layouts of mechanical systems.
-
Ensure compliance with required safety factors, tolerances, and specifications.
-
Apply standard drafting/design principles and theories ensuring compliance with applicable standards and codes.
-
Review supplier data and read and understand 2D and/or 3D designs.
-
Review existing engineering designs/drawings for accuracy and modify as required.
-
Interact with vendors and manufacturing facilities to address manufacturability questions, issues, and potential design optimization.
-
Perform quality inspections on mechanical assemblies ensuring conformance to specifications and/or applicable drawings.
-
Support with building prototypes, mockups and other R&D related tasks. 3D printers and an R&D fabrication bay onsite.

Able to travel within Canada and the US. Valid passport required.

Able to drive and owner of a vehicle. No public transport available to the work site.
Education and Experience:
For this position a 2-year technical degree or certificate of completion from an accredited Industrial design/Engineering/drafter course (or equivalent) is required, as well as 1+ years of relevant experience designing components and assemblies.

2 weeks paid vacation plus 1 week off bonus over Christmas holiday.

9 - 80 Schedule (9 hour days, 9 days in a row, Every second Friday off)

Office Environment - ability to use computers and office equipment, light lifting and other physical requirements necessary to perform essential job functions.

Safety Glasses must be worn at all times when in certain production areas.

Safety shoes must be worn at all times when in the production and PD&E areas.
