Job description

  • Must be a resident of the Athabasca Basin

Orano Canada is a leading producer of uranium in Canada, working to power the future with clean energy! Our McClean Lake mill is the most technologically advanced mill in the world for the processing of high-grade uranium ore without dilution. As a safety summer student, you will conduct recurring safety meetings and support other operational leaders and teams. We look forward to your application!

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform work activities as part of the Safety Team

o Daily, weekly, monthly inspections relating to the Fire Prevention Program

o Perform respiratory fit tests per the Respiratory Protection Program

  • Support Operational Leaders and Teams with respect to:

o Hazard identification and risk analysis

o Authorization and permit to work systems (Hot Work, Confined Space)

o Workplace inspections, audits and observations

o Assist with incident investigation and classification

  • Have an active field presence to encourage worker participation in Safety Programs
  • Lead by example following Safety rules and procedures
  • Participate in activities and meetings in a positive and engaged manner
  • Provide a team interface with leaders and teams to answer questions, provide follow up information and to ensure consistent implementation of the Safety Management System

Work Location & Schedule:

  • McClean Lake site
  • 14 days in and 14 days out rotating schedule
  • Normally an 11 hour work day, although some activity outside or normal working hours may be required

Fly Day- This position will fly in and fly out on Friday

Pick-Up Points: Saskatoon, Prince Albert, La Ronge, Buffalo Narrows and the designated communities in the Athabasca region of Uranium City, Stony Rapids, Fond du Lac, and Wollaston.

Ideal qualifications

Skills and Qualifications for the position include:

  • Must be a resident of the Athabasca Basin in Saskatchewan’s north (RSN)
  • Completion of grade 12 or equivalent and be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be dependable and able to work independently
  • Good written and oral communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Demonstrate good computer skills and past experience with Microsoft Office is an asset

This position is subject to pre-employment checks including education and criminal record verification.

Drug and alcohol substance testing is a requirement for all safety sensitive positions at Orano Canada.
