About the role

Reporting to the Manager, Integrated Planning & Effectiveness, the Learning Analyst ensures successful planning, development and implementation of new decision support solutions at the divisional and institutional level. This includes identifying the needs of multiple administrative groups, OLFMs, on campus faculty and students, proposing data analysis and other needs-based solutions that will meet those needs, developing project plans that include end-to-end project support and ensuring the successful implementation of those plans.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Independently designs, develops and applies solutions in consultation with key stakeholders to improve student success and/or institutional effectiveness.

  • Identifies, integrates and validates appropriate data and other information sources to respond to requests.

  • Develops and manages detailed project plans and documentation that define overall project schedules.

  • Arranges and conducts frequent collaborative work sessions that require sustained periods of focus from all parties in order to achieve acceptable solutions.

  • Manipulates databases and other data sources including queries required to meet institutional research and reporting needs.

  • Researches, recommends and implements business intelligence tools and processes including data mining, modeling and visualization techniques to identify trends, patterns and connections within the data.

  • Designs and integrates the data in meaningful visualizations/dashboards to empower data-supported decision-making.

  • Designs and implements communication strategies to ensure regular communication and transparency with faculty, leadership and staff through the use of tools including wikis, websites, meetings and emails.

  • Uses discretion when responding to requests and resolves conflicts among stakeholders as they arise.

  • Establishes, documents and communicates processes and procedures to ensure new solution implementation is successful.

  • Reviews existing research related to learning analytics, data-supported learning design, student persistence and uses that information to recommend next steps for implementation for the institution.

  • Participates in special projects and development of analysis.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate analytical discipline plus post-graduation education leading to a certificate or certification in a field related to data visualization, business analysis, decision support or predictive analytics

EXPERIENCE:

  • Five years of experience including:
    • Two years' experience gathering, synthesizing, evaluating and interpreting data to produce actionable information
    • One year experience using data visualization tools (e.g.: Tableau) to build dashboards and user friendly reports
    • One year leading collaborative work group in the completion of tasks that require high levels of concentration

REQUIRED SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

  • Analytical ability in order to collect, analyze and report data; analyze and interpret discrepancies, issues or problems to ensure data accuracy and integrity

  • Ability to manipulate data to produce meaningful reports and obtain advice when precedents are unclear or unavailable and determine methods for ensuring compliance with functional/ organizational policies and procedures

  • Acute attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy

  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point in a Windows environment including, but not limited to, experience making mathematical and statistical calculations, pivot tables, graphs, etc.

  • Advanced knowledge of data visualization and applicable software such as SAS, SPSS and Tableau

  • Knowledge of SQL scripting language

  • Exceptionally high level of initiative to solve complex problems

  • Independent ability to plan, develop and apply solutions, with or without technological requirements

  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
