Who We Are The Yukon Children’s Dental Program, comprised of Dental Therapists and Dental Hygienists provides comprehensive diagnostic, preventative and restorative dental services to preschool and school aged children in Whitehorse and throughout rural Yukon.
Your impact Are you passionate about providing comprehensive oral health care services and education to diverse communities? The Yukon Government is seeking a dedicated and skilled Dental Hygienist to join our team in delivering high-quality dental care to preschoolers and school-age children across Yukon.
Our Dental Hygienists deliver preventative dental services including fissure sealants and restorative procedures including placing temporary fillings and applying SDF (Silver Diamine Fluoride). Hygienists are part of a team that is committed to improving the oral health of all Yukon children.

- Dental Hygiene Diploma or degree; candidates who have their Federation of Dental Hygiene Regulators of Canada (FDHRC) equivalency may be considered
- Current license or eligibility to be licensed as a Dental Hygienist with Yukon’s Professional Licensing and Regulatory Affairs
- Experience providing various dental services to children and youth
- Experience working in public health and/or with First Nation’s communities is considered an asset
- Training and experience with Silver Diamine Fluoride and Interim Stabilization Therapy will be considered an asset

Skills Desired knowledge, skills and suitability If selected for an interview, candidates should have, and may be assessed on, the following:
- Understanding and adherence to the Dental Hygienists’ Code of Ethics & Code of Conduct
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated high standards and adherence to infection prevention and control protocols.
- Strong ability to work autonomously and effectively plan and manage a large, diverse workload
- Able to build and maintain effective relationships through collaboration with colleagues and clients
- Excellent approach in working with children and families
- Leadership skills that demonstrate aptitude in public health and program/service delivery

Conditions of employment You must meet the following conditions before being hired, or within the time frame noted.
- Copy of the Dental Hygiene Diploma or degree, or equivalency assessment from the Federation of Dental Hygiene Regulators of Canada (FDHRC)
- Registration with Yukon’s Professional Licensing and Regulatory Affairs for dental hygiene license
- Valid class 5 driver’s licence or equivalent
- Security clearance with vulnerable sectors
- TB Screening
- WHMIS 2015, to be obtained within 1 month of hire
- CPR certificate, to be obtained within 6 months of hire
- Transportation of dangerous goods certificate, to be obtained within 6 months
Job Requirements This job requires you to perform, and/or be exposed to, the following:
- City Travel: This position is assigned to different schools within the city of Whitehorse for set periods of time; staff are responsible for getting to and from their assigned sites (per fleet vehicle availability and relevant policies)
- Community Travel : Extensive travel required throughout the rest of the communities in the Yukon will be required (up to 1-3 weeks per trip); a government issued fleet vehicle will be provided by Yukon Government
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Must be comfortable working with young children (preschool and school-age)
- Exposure to physical hazards that may include communicable diseases, chemical exposure from medicaments and sanitization products, and radiation from taking x-rays.
- Exposure to a variety of hazardous materials that have toxic properties, requiring special handling, spillage and waste disposal procedures.
Candidate is responsible for locating and securing their own housing; this is not provided by Yukon Government.
