Position Summary
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide professional nursing care to residents in alignment with the Home’s Mission and Values. Reporting to the Director of Care (DOC) or Assistant Director of Care (ADOC), you will assess resident wellbeing, develop and implement Care Plans, supervise and mentor staff, and ensure departmental policies and procedures are followed. The RN will also provide hands-on care as needed, including coverage for DOC/ADOC and acting as Emergency Response Leader when serving as Nursing Supervisor.
Key Responsibilities
- Resident Care: Perform professional assessments, develop and implement Care Plans, provide hands-on clinical care including medication administration, assist with ADLs, and respond to emergencies. Apply restorative care principles, adult Montessori philosophies, and responsive behavior strategies. Communicate significant changes in resident condition to physicians and SDMs.
- Supervision & Leadership: Mentor and supervise RPNs, PSWs, and RSAs, participate in scheduling, audits, and policy enforcement. Support staff education and training, complete Critical Incident Reports, and assist in performance management and disciplinary processes. Maintain proficiency in RAI-MDS and Restorative Care Programs.
- Communication & Teamwork: Foster effective communication across departments and with residents and families. Promote teamwork and positive relationships with care staff, physicians, external providers, and other departments.
- Customer Service: Interact with residents and families professionally and compassionately, supporting dignity, independence, and emotional wellbeing. Promote a culture of resident-focused care in all interactions.
- Workplace Health & Safety: Maintain a safe work environment, comply with applicable laws, regulations, and Company safety procedures, address hazards promptly, and provide first aid as required.
Qualifications
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), in good standing.
- Experience or education in geriatric nursing required; previous supervisory experience preferred.
- Knowledge of responsive behaviour management (PIECES, GPA) is an asset.
- Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work varied shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Professional appearance, sound judgment, patience, and composure.
- Physically able to perform nursing duties, free of communicable diseases.
- Adherence to company policies regarding dress code, personal appearance, and immunizations.
