Our programs are run at two Campuses (68 Daisy Ave and 432 Horner Ave), both conveniently located in South Etobicoke.
The Role
VMA is inviting applications for the full-time position of a Supply Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) or Early Childhood Assistant (ECA). The successful candidate will have experience with and be comfortable working with students of all age groups (Toddler-School Age). At VMA, our supply teachers are guaranteed a minimum of 30 hours per week, with most working 35-40 hours weekly. This means you will never have to wait by your phone to see if you will be scheduled Each supply teacher will report to an assigned shift each morning if they are not assigned a schedule that day.
New graduates from an ECE program are strongly encouraged to apply for this position. VMA will first look into the possibility of an internal hire when there is a new opening, thus, this position can likely lead to a full-time position as an Early Childhood Assistant or Registered Early Childhood Educator in a designated classroom.
Applicants must be fully available for any shifts from 7:30-6:00 pm Monday-Friday per week to be considered for this position. Preference will be given to applicants with a commute time under 45 minutes.
What You'll Do
- Ensure that all actions and activities meet the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) regulations and the City of Toronto's Assessment for Quality Improvement (AQI)
- Collaborate with co-teachers on planning and implementing programs that are engaging, stimulating, and appropriate for the age group. The program must follow the Early Learning for Every Child Today (ELECT) framework and be based on the interests of the students. The program will need to meet the physical, cognitive, intellectual, social and emotional needs of the students.
- Create and maintain a learning environment where materials are purposeful and inspiring to students and free of clutter
- Document students' activities and observations into their Lillio account on the classroom tablet.
- Collaborate with co-teachers to implement the Program and routine of the classroom. Responsible for ensuring all co-teachers consistently follow all requirements outlined in the AQI.
- Ensure availability for consultation with parents regarding students' development. Communicate appropriate guidance, feedback, and instruction to parents through meetings, phone calls, and written communications.
- Advise the Site Supervisor of pertinent information concerning students and their families
- Advocate for the policies, procedures, and philosophy of VMA and support our mission, vision, and values
- Maintain a healthy and safe environment that meets the requirements set forth by Toronto Children’s Services, Ministry of Education, and VMA
- Assist students in washroom routines, dressing, and meal/snack activities
- Follow all health guidelines specified by Toronto Public Health
- Model positive adult/child relationships
What You'll Need
- A Degree or Diploma in Early Childhood Education and registration in Good Standing to the College of ECEs is considered a strong asset
- Minimum of 1 year experience in a licensed childcare setting
- Knowledge and application of the AQI, ELECT framework, and How Does Learning Happen pedagogy
- Experience working with special needs children in a classroom setting is considered a strong asset
- Fully immunized with a Health Canada-recognized COVID-19 vaccine
- Excellent English language communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong interpersonal skills with an emphasis on team building and demonstrated conflict resolution skills
- Current and clear Vulnerable Sector Check within 6 months from your start date, or willing to receive one
- Standard First Aid/CPR C certification
- Available Monday-Friday between 7:30 am-6:00 pm
- Ability to legally work in Canada

Established in 1985, Vincent Massey has developed a long standing reputation in the community for excellence in early education. A staple in West Toronto for over 30 years, Vincent Massey offers students a Reggio-inspired environment where everyday programs challenge them to test their assumptions and explore their curiosity as we open doors to exploration and inquiry.
Vincent Massey is located 5 minutes south of the Q.E.W and just one block north of the Lakeshore. From children ranging from 3 months to 12 year years old, Vincent Massey Academy ensures that students start their education off in an engaging, supportive, and passionate learning environment.
Our original Daisy Campus location was opened with three classrooms in a school previously owned by the Toronto District School Board- Vincent Massey Public School. Growing from three classrooms to ten, our Daisy Campus now provides care to over 230 students with programs ranging in infant care to the primary years.
In 2014, we opened our second campus which operates out of the Franklin Horner Community Centre. Our Franklin Horner Campus currently provides early learning programs to over 120 students from infant to prekindergarten age.
