This position is located in Owen Sound and the incumbent will teach Thursday’s from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Reporting to the Manager, School College Partnerships, the incumbent develops and delivers courses in the Dual Credit program. Introduction to Security Skills (LAWS1005) is scheduled to be delivered at the Owen Sound campus. This dual credit course is part of a Ministry of Education funded dual credit program. In this course students explore the legislative framework of the security industry, including the Private Security and Investigative Services Act (2005) that governs security personnel in the province of Ontario. Students examine basic security procedures necessary to safely and effectively protect people, property, and information. Students reflect on the importance of effective communication in the security industry and practice communication skills including customer service and report writing.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- Develops and delivers appropriate curriculum to meet course objectives in the following areas:
o Legislation
o Basic security procedures
o Emergency response
o Communication and sensitivity
o Health and safety
o Use of force
o Report writing
o Powers of arrest
o Search incident to arrest
- Incorporates a variety of teaching / learning strategies to meet student needs
- Evaluates student progress / achievement
- Participates in program and college activities as required
- Participates in program revisions and renewal activities as required
- Creates and maintains a positive learning environment
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Successful completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Policing, Police Studies, Security and Police Studies, or another relevant field
- Minimum five years’ related industry experience
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to life-long learning
- Proven ability to work in a team environment and to foster the same in students
- Experience in some or all the following is an asset: curriculum development, a variety of delivery strategies, adult learning methodologies, academic advising, and student success strategies
- Previous experience teaching high school aged youth will be considered an asset
- Teaching and Training Adults certification and / or experience in a teaching or training capacity will be considered an asset
Acceptable proof of education (degrees, credentials) from recognized post-secondary institutions or confirmation of international equivalencies will be required as part of the selection process.
