About the Opportunity
The Staff Accountant position is responsible for supporting finance functions, including month-end close, payroll transactions, travel and expense monitoring, and cycle count inventory; collaborates within the finance team and regularly communicates and coordinates with other site teams and departments.
This posting is an existing vacancy within Pursuit Aerospace.
Location: Orillia, Ontario. This is an Onsite position.
Responsibilities
Under limited supervision, this role is responsible for performing a wide range of accounting and financial support tasks, including:
- Preparing journal entries and maintaining assigned components of the general ledger.
- Reconciling payroll activity as part of the daily, weekly and monthly bank reconciliation process.
- Completing month‑end close activities, including recurring journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Supporting month‑end and year‑end close processes, year‑end audits, journal entry preparation, account analysis, and intercompany reconciliations.
- Maintaining accurate cost accounting records, reviewing labor hours and material costs, investigating discrepancies, correcting errors, and recommending corrective actions to management and peers as needed.
- Ensuring inventory accuracy and performing inventory cycle counts, supporting variance analysis when required.
- Assisting with monitoring and reconciling employee credit card expenses and intercompany transactions.
- Ensuring all financial transactions and reports are completed accurately, thoroughly, and in a timely manner.
- Adhering to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and established internal controls.
- Participating in ad hoc financial projects, reporting assignments, or process improvement initiatives.
- Performing other related duties as assigned to support department and organizational needs.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; or a minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including functions such as VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, pivot tables, sorting, filtering, and data formatting.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
- Understanding of financial reporting requirements and formats.
- Experience working within an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a manufacturing or CNC machine shop environment.
- Knowledge of cost accounting in a production setting, including labor, materials, and overhead.
- Experience with lean manufacturing principles or continuous improvement practices.
- Prior involvement in inventory management, cycle counts, or inventory reconciliation processes.
- Familiarity with ERP upgrades, system implementations, or process automation initiatives.
- Advanced Excel capabilities (macros, power queries, data modeling).
- Experience supporting audits or compliance requirements (internal or external).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to safely navigate a manufacturing or CNC shop environment when performing inventory counts or cost‑related investigations.
- Ability to stand, walk, or move throughout production areas as needed.
- Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs occasionally (e.g., inventory boxes, audit documentation, or binders).
- Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer.
- Ability to perform repetitive motions such as typing, data entry, and handling paperwork.
- Use of required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when entering shop or production areas.
