Director - Board of Directors
About the role
Skimo Canada is recruiting working board members and committee volunteers
Skimo Canada is looking for committed volunteers to help build the next stage of ski mountaineering in Canada.
Over the past several years, Skimo Canada has established the foundation of a national sport organization: national governance, race coordination, athlete pathways, international representation, and the early structure needed to support the growth of the sport across the country. That foundation is now in place — but the next stage requires more capacity, more systems, and more people willing to take ownership of real work.
We are seeking new directors and/or committee leads who can help move Skimo Canada from a small, founder-driven organization into a stronger, more sustainable National Sport Organization. This is a working board role. Directors are expected to lead a portfolio, advance projects between meetings, and take responsibility for outcomes — not simply attend monthly meetings and vote.
We are especially interested in people who can contribute in one or more of the following areas: Provincial sport organization and club development Helping create the roadmap, tools, and support structure for provincial development, club affiliation, local governance, and long-term growth across Canada.
Fundraising, sponsorship, and partnerships Building sponsorship opportunities, developing donor and partner relationships, supporting grant opportunities, and helping tell the story of skimo as an emerging Olympic winter sport.
Sport Canada, government funding, and organizational compliance Supporting funding applications, reporting requirements, policy development, governance documentation, and the systems required for a credible national sport organization.
Athlete pathway and high-performance development Helping clarify the pathway from local clubs and youth participation through development programs, national teams, international competition, and Olympic qualification.
Communications and community engagement Helping keep athletes, clubs, coaches, officials, volunteers, and supporters informed, connected, and excited about the growth of the sport.
Ideal candidates may come from sport administration, nonprofit governance, fundraising, finance, law, government relations, communications, coaching, race organizing, club leadership, or simply have a strong track record of getting things done in volunteer-driven organizations.
Expected commitment is approximately 5–10 hours per month, with heavier periods around major events, funding deadlines, or specific project milestones. Successful candidates should be prepared to develop a clear portfolio plan within their first 90 days and begin moving specific priorities forward.
Skimo Canada is still a lean organization. We are not looking for passengers. We are looking for builders. To express interest, please send a short note outlining your background, the portfolio area where you think you could contribute most, and why you are interested in helping build the future of ski mountaineering in Canada.
