What can you expect from this position?
Reporting to the Associate Director of Media Relations, you will confidently manage high-stakes media relations and complex issues for Toronto Pearson and the GTAA. This is a strategic role where you'll serve as a key spokesperson, provide expert counsel, shape our communications strategy, and drive innovation by creating compelling content across diverse channels, including podcasts and activations. As Senior Advisor, Communications and Media Relations, you will:
- Provide strategic communications counsel to internal clients and stakeholders, offering expert guidance on tactics, timing, and measurement.
- Develop and execute comprehensive communications plans to support organizational objectives.
- Create compelling content for various channels, including news releases, media statements, social media, advertising copy, and new formats like podcasts.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with media contacts and external stakeholders.
- Act as a primary media spokesperson, delivering messaging and conducting interviews on a range of topics.
- Handle proactive and reactive media relations, including responding to inquiries as part of an on-call rotation.
- Manage issues proactively by collaborating with subject matter experts to develop strategic messaging and positioning.
- Provide critical communications support during operational issues and emergencies, including on-call availability on evenings and weekends.
- Track and analyze the performance of communications programs and tactics to demonstrate their effectiveness.
- Champion a customer-centric approach within the communications team, supporting the company's mission and values.
This is the role for you, if you have:
- Three (3) years’ experience in either communications or news media.
- Three (3) years’ experience preparing messaging or editorial material for public delivery.
- Demonstrable experience working as a media spokesperson, including on-camera and live media interviews.
- Demonstrated experience in a customer-centric organization, familiar with customer experience models.
- Experience working in a unionized 24/7 workplace.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to analyze and simplify complex, technical information for diverse audiences.
- Strong relationship management abilities and a collaborative spirit, with experience working in dynamic, multi-stakeholder environments.
- Proven skills to be highly organized, detail-oriented, and ability to manage time effectively and work with confidential information.
- Three (3) year college diploma focusing on: public relations, communications or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid Ontario G Driver’s License.
- Ability to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance.
