About the job
You will work alongside municipalities and Ontario's municipal policy and legislative experts in providing a range of advisory and program management services to municipalities related to local government financial issues.
As a Senior Municipal Financial Advisor, you will:

Lead and support a team of municipal advisors, providing project oversight and technical guidance
-
Analyze municipal finance trends across regions and divisions, and report findings to corporate leadership
-
Strengthen local financial capacity and assist municipalities in accessing federal and provincial funding
-
Engage with senior municipal officials on a range of financial matters
-
Support municipalities with disaster relief funding applications and related financial analysis
Municipal Services Offices (MSOs)
We provide ongoing operational guidance to municipal clients with the aim of building strong communities and developing accountable local governments. MSOs respond to and anticipate municipal issues and trends of provincial interest, communicate key government priorities to municipal stakeholders, and assist municipalities to access government programs and to capitalize on best practices in municipal finance and administration. MSOs also provide 'one window' planning service for provincial input, review, decision-making and appeal of planning applications and assist in the delivery of education and advisory services to promote effective community planning.
This position will require occasional travel within the province.
What you bring to the team
Technical and Financial Expertise:
You have:
- Knowledge of municipal financial management, including accounting and balance sheet principles.
- Understanding of municipal auditing to assess financial capacity and address challenges.
- Familiarity with provincial and municipal structures, especially in finance, budgeting, and administration.
- Skills to analyze data and prepare clear, actionable technical reports.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
You have:
- Communication skills to write reports, present information, and engage with senior and municipal leaders.
- Tact and diplomacy when handling sensitive or confidential issues.
- Experience delivering presentations and training to diverse audiences.
- Proficiency with software tools for documents, presentations, spreadsheets, databases, and financial applications.
- Interpersonal skills to build effective partnerships across the region and within the Ontario Public Service
Team Leadership, Project Management and Decision-Making Skills:
You have:
- Proven team leadership and a collaborative approach.
- Decision-making and strategic thinking abilities.
- Sound judgment to offer advice, influence outcomes, and support financial leadership.
- Ability to lead multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
