We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Subsurface Technologist to join our Calgary team. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to critical data management initiatives, support field operations, and serve as a technical expert for geoscience software solutions.

In this position, you’ll work closely with geologists and geophysicists to prepare, validate, and organize well, seismic, and geological data for interpretation and analysis. You’ll generate maps and cross-sections using industry-standard software, support data integration into corporate systems, and ensure smooth coordination with drilling, reservoir, and production teams. You’ll manage digital and physical data repositories, ensure seamless integration into corporate databases, and collaborate with drilling, reservoir, and production teams to maintain data accuracy and flow. The ideal candidate will also provide technical support for geoscience applications and contribute to regulatory submissions and data transfers.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum 4-7 years of experience
  • Subsurface technologist certificate (Geoscience or Petroleum Engineering) or related certificate or degree
  • Eligible for CET, RET, RPT, or P. Tech
  • Experience with Petrel, geological, geophysical and other subsurface data, databases, data cleanup, and data governance
  • Strong ability to implement standards and best practices
  • Proficiency in scripting and analytics
  • Excellent time management, prioritization, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to initiate projects and work proactively
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from various professions and educational backgrounds

Responsibilities:

  • Data Stewardship Coordination: Collaborate with other technologists and asset team members to ensure accurate data collection, organization, and storage. Develop and implement data management protocols to maintain data integrity and accessibility
  • Studio Database Management: Monitor the health of the Studio database, perform regular data cleanup, and address data requests and issues from asset team members
  • Geoscience Data Loading & Support: Prepare, load, and validate well, seismic, and geological data into Petrel and other geoscience applications, including handling both one-off and bulk data loads
  • Digital Data Records Maintenance: Maintain and organize digital and physical subsurface data records, ensuring new data is properly loaded, stored, and accessible for the asset team
  • Geoscience Deliverables Preparation: Generate and update maps, cross-sections, and other geoscience deliverables to support interpretation and analysis
  • Winter Drilling Quality Control: Conduct QC for winter drilling operations, coordinate with vendors, set up QC sheets, and ensure compliance with AER requirements
  • Bulk Data Management: Execute bulk and planned data loads for winter drilling, new pads, seismic data management, and well data drive migration. Manage asset team template projects and conduct regular Studio database health checks
  • Data Governance: Maintain sustainment documents and best practices, enforce naming conventions, and manage seismic data requirements with vendors. Coordinate winter drilling planning, including QC and communication processes
  • Day-to-Day Geoscience Support: Assist geologists and geophysicists with data queries, data extraction, technical troubleshooting, and integration of new data into corporate databases and interpretation projects
  • Technical Application Support: Serve as a subject matter expert for Petrel and Studio, providing troubleshooting for software and data issues, user training, and documentation
  • Process Automation: Develop and maintain scripts to automate processes and improve efficiency for asset teams and the resource group.
  • Regulatory & Compliance Support: Assist with regulatory submissions, data transfers, and ensure all data management activities comply with company and industry standards

Location and other Key Details:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
