About The Role
The Business Development Manager role is a strategic position designed to spearhead growth initiatives within the heavy civil construction sector. Based in Markham, ON, this role involves identifying and securing new project opportunities, particularly in Design-Build and Public-Private Partnership (P3) sectors. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing comprehensive proposals, building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, owners, and engineering partners, and aligning pursuit strategies with the company's overall growth objectives. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence the company's market presence and contribute significantly to its project pipeline and revenue growth. The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record of securing large-scale contracts and have a deep understanding of the heavy civil construction landscape.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess a minimum of five years of experience in heavy civil construction, with a focus on Design-Build projects. A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Business is required, with an MBA qualification highly preferred. Demonstrated success in winning contracts valued above $20 million is essential, reflecting the candidate’s ability to handle complex and high-value projects. Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills are critical, along with excellent strategic thinking and project management capabilities. Familiarity with pipeline tracking and market analysis tools will be considered an asset. Candidates should demonstrate a proactive approach to business development, a deep understanding of the industry, and the ability to foster long-term client relationships.
Responsibilities
Identify and develop new project opportunities in Design-Build and P3 sectors, aligning with company growth strategies. Oversee the pipeline tracking process across various sectors to ensure timely pursuit of potential projects. Lead the entire proposal lifecycle, from opportunity assessment through to contract negotiations and award. Build and nurture relationships with clients, owners, engineers, and industry partners to facilitate ongoing business opportunities. Coordinate with internal teams to develop compelling proposals and bid strategies that maximize win probability. Maintain a thorough understanding of market trends, competitor activities, and industry developments. Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and networking functions to enhance brand visibility and business opportunities. Work closely with executive leadership to align pursuit strategies with overall corporate objectives.
