Opportunity
MacEwan University is seeking a Facilities Service Worker for a full-time continuing opportunity with our Facilities department.
This position is responsible for completing event set ups and room resets across the entire University campus. You will be responsible for assisting with furniture/office moves and custodial duties as required.
Key responsibilities include:
Event Space Setup Across the University
- Retrieving tables, chairs, and other event furniture and equipment from the storeroom(s), based on instruction from the Facilities Maintenance Worker who coordinates with the event client;
- Transporting the event furniture and equipment to the event space, loading it onto carts or into a cube van if the event is off-site;
- Setting up the event space as per received instructions and the event floor plan, assembling and placing the items as required;
- Ensuring the space is set up in a manner that is safe and secure for all staff and attendees, following all fire and safety regulations; and
- Ensuring the event space is clean and orderly, performing required custodial duties in cases where the custodial team has not been able to due to high demand or short turnaround times.
Post-Event Furniture & Equipment Disassembly

Disassembling the event furniture and equipment after the event is complete;
-
Transporting the event furniture and equipment back to the corresponding storeroom(s);
-
Ensuring the equipment tear down and space reset occurs in a safe manner, using the required equipment and techniques;
-
Ensuring the event space is clean and orderly for whomever will use the space next;
-
Reporting and disposing of any broken furniture or equipment; and
-
Utilizing FIMS (Facilities & Infrastructure Management System) to report the completion of event setups and space resets and remark on any changes that were required.
Custodial Services
-
Keeping the event storage spaces clean and orderly;
-
Performing seasonal custodial duties outside of the school term, such as floor waxing and using the mobile lifts to gain access to high up areas to dust and wash windows and surfaces; and
-
Other custodial duties as required.
Office & Furniture Relocation Services
- Moving office furniture and equipment when required, utilizing carts and proper moving techniques; and
- Other moving duties as required.

Skills
You will have:

The ability to read and understand event floorplans;
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills;
-
Basic computer knowledge;
-
The physical ability to lift 40lbs continually throughout a 7-hour shift;
-
Knowledge of fire code and the occupancy and layout restrictions they entail; and
-
Problem solving ability to adjust furniture as required and set order of tasks.
Qualifications
-
A minimum of a high school diploma.
-
A minimum of 1 year experience in event set up.
-
A minimum of 1 year experience in custodial services.
-
A valid Class 5 Driver's License.
-
Completion of Fall Arrest and Mobility Lift training.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
