Job Description
Integrated in the T&P (Technical & Performance) Canada team, the Hazardous Waste Technical Director is responsible for direction and execution of technical aspects throughout the ESS division of Canada (ESS is the division of Veolia Canada managing Hazardous Waste). This includes:
- Technical support to operations
 - Engineering and process safety,
 - Project Management,
 - Participation in the strategy definition and support to business development,
 - Technical due diligence of existing and new projects or acquisitions.
 
The position can be located in Quebec or Ontario (with a preference for Ontario). This individual must have a strong background in the technical field in the environmental business, chemical engineering and with experience in business operations, knowledge of finance principles and project management. ESS Canada involves:
- Hazardous waste transfer stations and solidification (1 in Québec and 3 in Ontario)
 - Hazardous water treatment (physico-chemical and 3 phase centrifuges) (Québec and Ontario)
 - Hazardous waste incinerator (running at limited capacity) (Alberta)
 
Main Responsibilities:
- 
Provide technical and performance support to the ESS group in Canada by supporting Operations and Asset Management teams to troubleshoot, optimize and improve the performance of current activities where identified. Provide technical mentoring and training to O&M employees.
 - 
Responsible for the project management of the projects defined to upgrade the facilities (CAPEX delivery) in close collaboration with the operational teams, ensuring schedule, and strict adherence to health and safety, quality and budget considerations
 - 
Provide the overall direction and management of his/her assigned projects, including the assigned personnel, equipment, and subcontractors, applying proper and effective project management procedures and skills.
 - 
As guarantor of the Process Safety Management (PSM) practices he and his team are in charge to ensure compliance with engineering standards and industry best practices (including Veolia guidelines).
 - 
Participate in defining the long term strategy to develop the Canadian activities by bringing technical expertise to the business development team. Participate to the development of associated business cases and memos for internal GoNoGo.
 - 
Lead technical due diligences of new business acquisition or plant upgrades.
 - 
Actively participate in feedback and post-job evaluation of assigned projects.
 - 
Other duties as directed. While this position is mainly supporting the Hazardous Waste division, the Technical Director could be involved in other divisions of Veolia Canada on specific duties (non-hazardous waste and Water).
 
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Education/Experience:
- 15 years experience in transversal technical functions and/or operational functions (ex : operation manager, plant manager, technical manager…)
 - Experience in hazardous/industrial waste treatment
 - Bachelor of Science degree in technical studies - Engineer. A Chemical Engineering degree is a strong asset.
 
Skills/Knowledge:
- Language skills for business in English and French
 - Thinking skills: decision making ability, seasoned judgment
 - Skills in leadership, planning, coordination and project management
 - Strong skills in analysis and problem solving
 - Ability to work with pluridisciplinary teams and transversally (influencing without having the operational control)
 - Ability to foster teamwork and excellence in expertise work coordination
 - Outstanding writing, communication skills both up and down and mentoring skills
 - Must be committed to the Veolia core values of integrity, openness and trust, accountability, and excellence through teamwork.

- Driving license
 
Work Environment:
Permanent position, offered on a full-time basis, with schedules from Monday to Friday, day time.

Travel 25% of the time (more if based in Québec)
