Hours: 40 hrs/wk.
Rate: $24.89-$30.00 per hour
Location: 1122 Lodge Rd., Clarendon Station
Classification: Full-Time Summer Position Contract (Approx. June 29-Aug 21)
Transportation is provided to and from the camp. Pick up is from office located in Toronto or Scarborough office.
Summary:
Native Child and Family Services of Toronto strives to provide a life of quality, well-being, caring and healing for our children and families in the Toronto Native Community. We do this by creating a service model that is culture based and respects the values of Native people, the extended family, and the right to self-determination and through the integration of holistic, culturally based prevention services that are child centred, family focused, and community driven.
Primary Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Camp Supervisor, the Overnight Camp Cook will:

Coordinate and deliver of all food-related programming for the overnight Summer Camp Program.

Plan nutritional daily menus for camp participants; maintain and monitor health and safety within the kitchen and cooking area
-
Maintain food inventory and ordering food supplies for the overnight Summer Camp.
-
Order large quantities of food as needed for the program.
-
Plan menus for large groups within a limited budget.
-
Manage all aspects of the kitchen including food storage, food distribution, inventory control/replenishment and overall safety and cleanliness of the kitchen and food storage areas.

Abide by all policies and procedures as set out by Native Child and Family Services of Toronto

This position might also involve virtual programming.

Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:
-Excellent knowledge of food handling and preparation (Food Handling certificate required).

Previous experience cooking for a summer camp program, previous experience working or volunteering with Native Child and Family Services Toronto programs and services is an asset.
-
WHIMIS and First Aid/CPR training is also considered an asset.
-
Pass a vulnerable sector police records check.
-
Understanding the unique dynamics that exist within First Nations, Inuit, and Métis cultures.
-
Flexibility and ability to work within a team approach to service delivery and with Indigenous youth.

Excellent organizational, oral/verbal/written communication skills; initiative and respect for confidentiality

This position requires the flexibility to be able to work 8 weeks at the overnight camp.

Demonstrated understanding, and commitment to, integrating the Native Child and Family Services of Toronto Mission and values in to practice, service and relationships.

Demonstrated understanding of workplace Health and Safety practices and understanding of an employee’s responsibility under current legislation.

Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, to maintain effective communication and working relationships, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills, tact, sensitivity and build strong internal relationships.
