Join Our Team as a Kitchen Assistant – Senior Day Program
Are you someone who enjoys helping others and takes pride in keeping things clean and organized? Older Adult Services is looking for a flexible, reliable, and caring individual to support our Senior Day Program.
As a Kitchen Assistant, you’ll play an important role in making mealtimes enjoyable for our participants. You’ll help with meal service and ensure our kitchen stays safe, hygienic, and sparkling clean. You’ll be part of a supportive team and report to the Supervisor of Older Adult Services.

Hours of Work: Up to 24 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9:30 am to 1:30 pm
Responsibilities
- Prepare coffee and muffins for the program’s morning nourishment.
- Manages and monitor inventory and informs Older Adult Program Assistant of products to order.
- Handles, stores, and labels all products properly and in accordance with applicable food safety requirements. Ensures disposal of expired food.
- Supports high standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained throughout the kitchen to meet the required standards of practice prescribed by Public Health Services in the Region of Waterloo.
- Washes/sanitizes any dishes and equipment used.
- Completes temperature checks on food served to ensure program is adhering to safe food handling procedures.
- Maintains all up-to-date records including filing (e.g., temperature control requirements, cleaning schedules), and forwards paperwork to administrative staff as required.
- Ensure all equipment is in good, clean working order and request any repairs/replacements as necessary, in consultation with supervisor.
- Responsible for service setup, serving, clearing, and cleaning of dining room is completed.
- Clears tables following meals and sanitize tables.
- Follows established procedures during emergencies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Secondary Diploma
- Minimum 3 months’ working experience in a kitchen or in a food services environment working directly with food handling.
- Valid certificate in Food Handling/Safe Food Handling.
- Able to work independently under minimal supervision within the kitchen environment.
- Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
