The Adult Neurodevelopmental Services (ANS) at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health is currently seeking a full-time, temporary ALC Registered Behaviour Analyst (RBA) for the Adult Neurodevelopmental Outpatient Services. Reporting to the manager of Adult Neurodevelopmental services, the RBA will collaborate with the inter-professional team in the development of integrated formulations, care plans and treatments in accordance with evidence-based approaches relevant to working with clients with a neurodevelopmental disorder. The RBA will work with clients with a developmental disability and/or autism as well as mental health and behaviours such as aggression, self-injurious behaviours or severe persistent repetitive behaviours.

The RBA’s caseload will include ALC clients as well as outpatients referred to ANS. Referrals to the ALC service most frequently involve hospital based clients exhibiting physical aggression, environmental destruction or disruptive behaviour and various social skill deficits. Transition from hospital to community most often requires specialized supports and planning in order to make for a successful move. The goal of the ALC RBA is to support, collaborate and build capacity with community care providers in the development of care plans, behaviour management protocols to enable the successful transition and or integration of ANS clients from hospital to community placements.

Working within a bio-psychosocial framework, the RBA uses the science of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) to conduct functional behaviour assessments and design function-based behavioural intervention procedures. The RBA will use evidence-based, data-informed, best-practice approaches based on the most relevant behaviour analytic research. The RBA will work with clients, families, staff, and service providers to develop and implement behaviour support plans that are tailored to each individual’s unique needs. You will liaise with other services at CAMH, community agencies and other practitioners to support the development of a repertoire of behaviours that is conducive to safe community and the best possible quality of life.

The RBA will possess knowledge of risk assessment and work to mitigate risk and encourage client’s stabilization. There is an expectation that you will contribute to program development, continuous quality improvement initiatives and to the research and educational activities of the program. You will support a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all the applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This position requires flexible hours across the work week (evening) which will vary across the calendar year.

Job Requirements

  • Post-graduate degree in Behaviour Analysis or related field.
  • Registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPBAO) in good standing.
    • For Registered Behaviour Analyst applicants not yet in independent practice, who are required to practice with clinical supervision, CAMH, in its discretion, will pre-arrange this formal supervisory relationship with the clinical program as a condition of hire, based on capacity
    • CAMH reserves the right to assess if supervision capacity allows for candidates who are registered with the college under supervised practice
  • 2 years' experience in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), preferably with individuals with developmental disabilities, mental health challenges, or dual diagnoses is preferred
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Work primarily in community settings, with a moderate to high level of mental and sensory concentration
  • May involve lifting light objects and occasional de-escalation of clients in distress
