About the role

Backed by a fifth-generation family-owned company, Spicers is a leading distributor of commercial print and business papers, specialty products, graphic solutions, sign & display equipment and materials, and packaging and facility supplies and equipment.

We’re based in Vaughan, Ontario, with 13 regional locations that include custom manufacturing facilities in Edmonton, Toronto and Winnipeg, as well as cash and carry locations, product showrooms and equipment demo sites. 

We are currently looking for a full-time Technical Sales Support located in Vaughan, Ontario, reporting to the Director of Technology Solutions – Graphic Systems and Solutions.

The Technical Sales Support role is responsible for delivering professional demonstrations of wide format graphic equipment and supporting sales teams through both in-person and virtual presentations. The position also oversees customer print sample production, ensures demo equipment is maintained in optimal working condition, and assists in the creation of marketing materials. 

Your Challenge:

Under the supervision of the Director of Technology Solutions – Graphic Systems and Solutions, the duties and responsibilities of the Technical Sales Support include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Prepare and stage the demo room before customer visits, ensuring all machines, materials, tools, and samples are clean, organized, and ready for use.
  • Operate and maintain wide-format printers, cutters, laminators, and finishing equipment during live demonstrations.
  • Load media, manage print jobs, and adjust settings to show different output types and application results.
  • Create sample pieces tailored to customer and organization’s needs, such as signage, vehicle wraps, retail graphics, window graphics, labels, banners or product samples.
  • Explain machine capabilities, workflow steps, and key features in a way that is easy for customers to understand.
  • Highlight the differences between substrates, inks, print modes, speeds, and finishing options.
  • Troubleshoot basic technical issues during demos to keep the presentation running smoothly.
  • Coordinate with sales teams to understand the customer’s industry, goals, and objectives before the demo.
  • Customize presentations based on the customer’s application, budget, and production volume.
  • Capture feedback from visitors and share insights with sales teams.
  • Maintain demo materials inventory, including media, ink, cleaning supplies, and sample stock.
  • Support trade shows, open houses, product launches, and customer events when needed.
  • Ensure safe operation of equipment and follow all workplace and manufacturer safety procedures.
  • Keep the demo area organized and presentable to reflect the quality of the brand and equipment.
  • Stay current on new products, software, accessories, and application trends in the wide format market.
  • Participate in producing marketing samples.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Your Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma or the equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in the graphic and printing industry with production experience being a strong asset;
  • Experience operating HP, Epson, Mimaki, Roland wide format printers, laminators, mounting tables, and cutting equipment like Colex, Summa, Kongsberg, Zund, flatbed printers, dye sublimation, and finishing equipment;
  • Use of production software like Onyx, Caldera, ErgoSoft, VersaWorks, Rasterlink, Edgeprint, Wasatch, etc.;
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of workflow, file setup for print, cut, lamination, mounting, colour adjustment, variable data, and multiple equipment operation;
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both oral and written;
  • Proficient in using MS Office, including PowerPoint;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Excellent customer service skills;
  • Strong organization and time-management skills;
  • Punctual, dependable, and reliable;
  • Customer service mindset;
  • Excellent teamwork and team building skills;
  • Self-directed and self-motivated; and
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities;
  • Industry knowledge and understanding of paper manufacturing, paper distribution, graphic products, printing processes, sign and display, tradeshow or industrial supplies, and packaging considered an asset.

Working Conditions:

  • Working long hours in a standing position;
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.;
  • Able to work on a computer for numerous hours, which may result in strain on wrists, eyes, back, etc.;
  • Ability to work in a busy, open area office;
  • Willing to travel to customer sites and offer training support as necessary;
  • May have to spend long hours in concentration, which requires attention to detail and high levels of accuracy;
  • This position faces a number of deadlines, which may cause stress; and
  • Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
