ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Pharmacy Technician is accountable and responsible for the technical aspects of both new and refill prescriptions, as well as supporting the dispensing pharmacist(s) in the provision of optimal patient care under the supervision of the dispensing pharmacist.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performing the role of Pharmacy Technician as outlined in the NAPRA Model Standards of Practice for Canadian Pharmacy Technicians and Ontario College of Pharmacists standards of practice.
  • Ensuring that prescriptions are prepared in accordance to all laws, regulation, and by-law governing Pharmacy.
  • Verifying that the information on the prescription is complete and accurate
  • Signing off on prescriptions filled by themselves or Pharmacy Assistants, and
  • Preparing prescriptions for sign off according to pharmacy workflow and procedures: Receiving written prescriptions and inputting them into the computer system, Resolving third-party billing issues, Measuring, mixing, packaging, and labelling drugs, Preparing simple compounded medications, and Pre-packaging medications (e.g., methadone, unit-dose medications).
  • Assist the dispensing pharmacist(s) in the safe and effective delivery of medication, including, but not limited to: Aiding in narcotic destruction, Accepting verbal prescriptions when appropriate, Ensuring prescriptions are only provided to patients once the therapeutic check by a pharmacist has been performed, Communicating with clients and physicians as requested, Answering telephones and taking messages, Receiving and sending electronic communications, and General filing.
  • Data entry and billing of prescriptions using Kroll Pharmacy Software ensuring that required documentation is complete, including, but not limited to, third-party billing restrictions, co-payment management, and coordination of benefits.
  • Assisting with the management and reconciliation of inventory.
  • Monitoring site refrigeration temperatures and report any variances directly to the dispensing pharmacist(s).
  • Maintaining a clean work environment at all times, including cleaning and sterilizing equipment and workstations.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Designated Manager or dispensing pharmacist(s).

Requirements:

  • Current registration with the Ontario College of Pharmacists as a Pharmacy Technician in good standing
  • Experience using Kroll Pharmacy Software.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft platform, particularly Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Demonstrated patient-centered pharmacy practice skills.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), organizational, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and poised in urgent situations.
  • Proven ability to lead others.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and decision-making skills.
  • Successful candidates will be required to submit a valid proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 within the first 6 weeks of employment.
