THE OPPORTUNITY

Ram Iron & Metal is looking for a talented and driven Director of Finance to join our Team. The Director of Finance will serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and senior leadership team, overseeing all aspects of financial management and control for the organization. This individual will lead financial strategy, reporting, and compliance, while driving efficiency in financial operations and supporting long-term growth initiatives. The role requires strong business acumen, industry awareness, and the ability to navigate a fast-paced, asset-heavy, commodity-driven environment.

OVERVIEW

The Director of Finance will oversee all aspects of financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, compliance, and risk management. As a senior leader, you will provide strategic insights to support decision-making, optimize cash flow and working capital, and ensure sound financial governance across the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

Strategic Leadership

  • Partner with the CEO to develop and execute the company’s financial strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate goals and objectives.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support decision-making, profitability, and long-term sustainability.
  • Lead financial forecasting, budgeting, and strategic planning processes.

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Oversee preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, management reports, compliance reports and analysis for stakeholders on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards, tax regulations, and all legal/ regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor key financial metrics and operational performance indicators, recommending corrective actions where necessary.

Operational Finance

  • Manage treasury, cash flow, and working capital to support operations and growth initiatives.
  • Oversee cost control, margin analysis, and pricing strategies within the commodity-based business environment.
  • Ensure proper systems and controls are in place for inventory valuation, capital asset management, and procurement.

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Develop and maintain internal controls, risk management strategies, and corporate governance practices.
  • Liaise with external auditors, foreign exchange dealers, insurance brokers, financial institutions, and regulatory bodies as required.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health & safety and financial reporting obligations related to recycling operations.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the finance and accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Promote cross-departmental collaboration to align operational and financial performance.

Systems and Process Improvement:

  • Evaluate existing accounting processes and systems, identifying opportunities for automation and efficiency gains.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance financial reporting systems and tools, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with IT and other departments to implement system upgrades and process improvements.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • CPA designation (CPA, CA, CMA or CGA) is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (MBA or equivalent considered an asset).
  • 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Experience in asset-intensive industries (manufacturing, recycling, commodities, logistics, or related sectors) strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record in strategic planning, financial modeling, and operational efficiency.
  • Experience and knowledgeable of MS Dynamics suite, Great Plains, MS Office including SharePoint, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian tax regulations, corporate finance, and risk management.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and evolving business environment.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The working environment can be busy and fast paced, with regular and ongoing interactions with colleagues, management, and the public at large. There may be frequent interruptions, and from time to time be noisy.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to be able to lift up to and including 30lbs, sit and/or stand for extended periods of time and reach with arms/hands. Walking, walking up/downstairs, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and moving items is occasionally required.
