Park Maintenance Technician
The Town of Woodstock invites applications for a park maintenance technician
Within the Department of Public Works.
The Town of Woodstock is seeking an energetic and hard-working individual to join the Public Works Department as a parks maintenance technician. This position performs a wide variety of semi-skilled maintenance, repair, and beautification tasks to ensure that the Town's parks, recreational facilities, trails, and public green spaces are safe, clean, and well maintained for residents and visitors. This position requires physical outdoor work in all weather conditions and a commitment to the quality and character of the community's public spaces. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Parks Crew Leader.
The Town is seeking a candidate who has or has the potential to acquire: general knowledge of the methods, practices, equipment, tools and materials used in park operation and maintenance; general knowledge of building, equipment, repair, and maintenance; general knowledge of the grasses, flowers, shrubs and trees grown in the area preferred; general knowledge of hazards and necessary safety precautions involved in park operations and maintenance work; skill in operation of assigned equipment; ability to understand and relay oral and written instructions; ability to maintain records; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
This position requires a valid driver's license, a high school diploma or GED. Experience in grounds maintenance is preferred. The pay range is $17.94-$21.53 per hour and is classified as an FLSA non-exempt position. The successful applicant must be able to pass a pre-employment, post-offer drug screening and background check. This position is open until filled.

Education and Experience: Valid Virginia driver’s license, high school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with landscaping or grounds maintenance preferred
Special Requirements
Special Requirements: Valid commercial driver's license with Class B endorsement in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or the ability to obtain within one year of hire. The Registered Technician for Pesticide Applicator certification through the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is to be acquired within two years of hire. The VDOT Intermediate Work Zone Certification is required to be obtained within two years of hire.
Miscellaneous Information
This work requires frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force. Team lifting and or equipment required for occasional exertion of lifting anything over 50 pounds. Work regularly requires the ability to use the application of hand tools, reaching with hands and arms, frequently requires standing, walking, pushing, or pulling, and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, lifting, and repetitive motions. Work requirements include effective communication; standard or corrective vision and hearing; operating machines, motor vehicles, or equipment; and observing general surroundings and activities. Duties regularly require exposure to wet humid conditions (non-weather), outdoor to climate-controlled environments, including heavy traffic with above-average noise exposure, working near moving mechanical parts, in confined spaces, and in high, precarious places. Some duties may include exposure to fumes or airborne particles, bloodborne pathogens, toxic or caustic chemicals, potential risk of electrical shock, and exposure to vibration. Application of wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus and all personal protective equipment (PPE) to comply with OSHA regulations and Town safety policies are necessary. Hepatitis B vaccines will be required. The Town of Woodstock prioritizes the safety of employees first. All PPE will be provided to include training for the above outlined.
