About the role

Job Posting: Custodial/Operations Staff for the Comox Valley Airport

The Comox Valley Airport Commission (CVAC) is accepting applications for one permanent part-time (minimum 20 hours per week) custodial/operations staff member for the Comox Valley Airport terminal building.

Key Responsibilities

· Security/Safety/Awareness/Communication – To maintain an overall awareness of all activities taking place at the Comox Valley Airport and reporting all matters of an unusual, suspicious, or unsafe nature to the supervisory staff, and all other employees who may be affected. · Building Custodian - overall cleaning and sanitizing of washrooms, offices, windows, and common areas, general building tidiness, terminal opening and lock-up; · Groundskeeper – salting, snow removal, litter control both airside and groundside; · Restricted Area Access – control airside access through CVAC vehicle gates, provide escort to contractors within restricted areas, ensure tenant and public compliance with CVAC security regulations; · Emergency Procedures – respond to diverse situations requiring airport staff intervention, including: o providing first aid to passengers; o coordinating with law enforcement, fire services, and Canada Border Services; o taking charge of terminal evacuation; o responding to unattended baggage; and o controlling and cleaning up any spills of hazardous material. · Ramp Safety – provide ramp safety and security oversight for all aircraft movements; and · Customer Service – assist airport passengers and visitors with any and all customer experience situations that may arise from the parking lot area to the boarding lounge.

Qualifications · Experience in airport operations, customer service and custodial experience is preferred; · Training will be provided in security regulations and emergency response procedures; · Knowledge of WHMIS, as well as health and safety requirements, is an asset; · Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills; · Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn new tasks and responsibilities; · Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced, constantly evolving airport environment; · Strength of character and a strong work ethic; · Proven ability to work as part of a team, interacting effectively with passengers, co-workers and staff from all 12 companies operating within the airport terminal; and · Must be legally authorized to work in Canada and successfully pass a security clearance background check.

Compensation: $21.00-26.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
