Job Summary
The Gynecologic Cancer Initiative (GCI) is a province-wide effort to accelerate transformative research in the prevention, detection, treatment, and survivorship of gynecologic cancers. By leveraging the exceptional talent and rich research environment across British Columbia, the GCI has built a collaborative framework that unites researchers, clinicians, trainees and knowledge users. Our mission is bold and focused: to reduce the incidence and mortality of gynecologic cancers by 50% by 2034. The GCI is powered by the determination, talent, and passion of its people. We are seeking a Research Project Coordinator for a diverse portfolio of research studies, including clinical trials and other investigator-led projects. The successful candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to facilitate study start-up and implementation, oversee study administration, and ensure compliance with regulatory and reporting requirements. This role involves managing multiple concurrent projects and includes direct interaction with study participants, patients, research staff, investigators and external collaborators. The coordinator will oversee all aspects of project operations, from ethics submissions and data management and communications, ensuring that timelines are met, and deliverables are achieved with excellence.
Organizational Status
The Gynecologic Cancer Initiative (GCI) is a cross-institutional effort based across multiple hospital and research sites in Vancouver, including the University of British Columbia, BC Cancer, the VGH Research Pavilion, the Diamond Health Care Centre, the Women’s Health Research Institute, and BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre. While the GCI operates across these collaborative sites, the Research Project Coordinator will be based primarily at the VGH Research Pavilion in Vancouver, BC, Canada. The candidate will work under the direction of the Principal Investigators for research-related activities and collaborate closely with other GCI Research Managers. Also works with other co-investigators, trainees and research staff within the GCI and international collaborating study sites.
Work Performed
- Managing multi-centre GCI studies including study start-up, planning and executing study workflow and study administration, overseeing participant recruitment and consenting, and reviewing study progress
- Writing, preparing and submitting ethics applications, annual renewals and amendments
- Contributing for the preparation and submission of grants and annual reports to funding agencies
- Developing abstracts, manuscripts and presentations for studies
- Facilitating contract agreements with UBC, BC Cancer, collaborating institutes and funding organizations
- Working with data coordinators to develop data collection and management pipeline
- Oversee study sample collection with tissue banking staff and hospital labs and lead study meetings with research team, co-investigators and collaborators
- Oversee collecting, collating, and analyzing data, generating reports, and liaising with program bioinformatician and statistician regarding analyses
- Developing and implementing community engagement plans as appropriate
- Ensuring data management, storage, and governance comply with ethical guidelines and data sharing and privacy agreements
- Working with communications and knowledge mobilization team members, advise on the development of knowledge translation materials for academic, public, government, health care professional, and other audiences
- Training and oversight of staff and learners, including research assistants, co-op, undergraduate and graduate trainees
- Working closely with finance team to review project ledgers, budgets and research expenses
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Errors or incorrect decisions related to projects could compromise research quality and delay project timelines, and may diminish the scientific integrity of the study, damage relationships with collaborators and funders, and impact future funding prospects. The Research Coordinator is expected to complete all tasks with a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and professionalism.
Supervision Received
The Research Coordinator will work under the supervision of the project Principal Investigators. While the role involves independent execution of assigned duties, work is performed under guidance and reviewed for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to established protocols.
Supervision Given
The Research Coordinator will provide guidance and informal supervision to students, volunteers, or junior staff assisting with specific tasks related to research studies.
Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
