Decision Support Specialist - MIS & Case Costing
About the role
Position Overview
Reporting to the Manager of Decision Support, the Decision Support Specialist - MIS & Case Costing is responsible for coordinating quarterly and annual Ministry reporting and oversees the collection and analysis of relevant statistical and financial information with an aim to improve processes, create efficiencies, and optimize funding. Responsibilities also include supporting the case costing process as well as providing analytical support and consultation in the management and use of costing data for operational decision making. The successful candidate will be a pro-active team player who possesses strong analytical and problem solving abilities along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate, prepare, and submit quarterly and year-end trial balance submissions and supplementary reporting.
- Oversee the collection, coordination, and management of statistical data for corporate reporting.
- Analyze and review OCDM and Case Costing results and prepare benchmarking analysis to support the annual budget process.
- Support the Case Costing process through data processing, reconciliations to source systems and communications with departments regarding data extracts and quality improvements.
- Monitor MIS performance indicators and cost drivers and work with Managers and Directors to review opportunities for improvement
- Oversee MIS compliance throughout the organization and provide MIS training sessions as necessary.
- Review MIS compliance of the G/L and coordinate with Finance to create efficiencies in the reporting process.
- Work with patient access, health records and programs to improve the quality of data from registration.
Education:
- Undergraduate degree in a related discipline (e.g. accounting, health information management, statistics).
- Master’s degree (completed or in progress) in a related discipline preferred.
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in the hospital sector with a focus on Ministry Information Systems and OCC reporting.
- Strong knowledge of OHRS and OCC standards
- Strong financial reporting and analysis experience with excellent presentation and communication skills.
- Working knowledge of clinical administrative datasets and systems (DAD, NACRS, CCRS, NRS, OHMRS)
- Proficient in the use of MS Office products.
- Experience in the use of business intelligence tools (e.g. SQL, Cognos, Power BI, Tableau)
- Demonstrated customer service experience with the ability to establish and build effective relationships with senior leaders.
- Adept team player with excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize workload independently to meet time constraints and deadlines.
