About the role:
As a member of the Technology Strategy and Data team, the Data Governance Analyst will support developing the maturity of data governance disciplines and practices at Fairstone, focusing on competencies for data stewardship, data quality, and metadata management.
Data Governance (50%)
- Publish and maintain business information about our data, including terms, definitions, and rules, in a central glossary as a reference tool for all employees
- Foster solid working relationships with Data Stewards to ensure a high level of service, knowledge sharing and to understand the needs and expectations of data users.
- Support the centralized intake service for data governance support, including working with Data Stewards and other business stakeholders, and IT teams to investigate and remediate data quality issues.
- Support data quality management and metadata management for strategic Treasury funding facilities while meeting critical path timelines
- Work with Data Stewards to map and document requirements to Fairstone data in order to facilitate reporting to third parties including regulatory and Treasury funding facilities
- Apply data quality management practices to ensure accurate reporting to third parties
- Foster solid working relationships with Data Stewards to ensure a high level of service, knowledge sharing and to understand the needs and expectations of data user
Project Management and Continuous Improvement Activities (20%)
- Work closely with project teams to ensure effective capture of new metadata and changes to metadata during the project lifecycle.
- Ensure appropriate Data Stewardship involvement for metadata reviews and sign-offs
- Provide Business and IT with guidance on effective and consistent capture and management of metadata.
- Support information management best practices and governance controls within the SDLC and PMO methodology.
- Support business analysis needs for projects (people, processes and tools) with consideration for business requirements, functional requirements, user (stakeholder) requirements, use cases, quality-of-service (non-functional) requirements, implementation (transition) requirements, specifications, and traceability
- Complete an annual attestation with Data Stewards to review and ensure metadata is current and accurate.
Governance and Control (15%)
- Deliver data management and governance reporting and metrics for tracking levels and progress
- Support the development, communication and adoption of Data Governance standards and principles
- Support governance controls for regulatory reporting, including requirements documentation, business validation and Data Steward approvals prior to release
Risk and Compliance (15%)
- Ensure all assigned processes and procedures are documented and updated as practices change
- Ensure assigned Key Risk Indicators and Key Performance Indicators are updated and managed within thresholds
- Participate in Risk, Audit, Compliance and Regulatory requests as required to ensure they are addressed in timely manner, including adherence to IT Risk Compliance Guideline
What we’re looking for:
- University degree in business, data management or equivalent
- 1-3 years of relevant Data Management or regulated Financial Services experience
- Proven experience with requirements gathering and analysis
- Knowledge of SAP is an asset
- Knowledge of leading practices, technology, metrics and controls for Data Stewardship, Data Quality Management and Metadata Management is an asset
- Proven ability to learn new technology/technical tools (i.e. SAP, Microsoft Power BI, Databricks)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Highly organized and extremely detail oriented with continuous attention to quality
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, proven ability to collaborate and write clear and concise documentation
- Demonstrated excellence in relationship building with different roles and departments
- Able to multi-task and function independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven work environment
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office and Excel skills

- Expected base salary range is 61,000$ -76,000$ , plus the opportunity to earn an annual incentive bonus tied to performance.
