Day Service Coordinator

Permanent, Full-time (35 hours per week), New Position

The Alzheimer Society of Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland and Haliburton is seeking a compassionate and skilled individual to join our team as a Day Service Coordinator.

In this role, you will be instrumental in building meaningful relationships with persons living with dementia by developing and facilitating recreational opportunities tailored to their unique needs.

This position is ideal for someone who is empathetic and skilled at maintaining professional boundaries and respectful interactions with clients, while providing thoughtful, client-centered support, cultivating creativity, and designing meaningful activities that enrich experiences and enhance the well-being of those we serve

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of social and recreational programs for our Young Onset Day Service

  • Working with clients of the Young Onset Day Program to develop a schedule of activities including physical activities, cognitively stimulating activities, community outings, healthy meals and snacks

  • Building strong internal and external relationships with clients, staff, volunteers, and community partners

  • Maintaining confidential, accurate client attendance and documentation records

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in recreation, social services, gerontology, or other related discipline

Experience

  • Experience working with people living with dementia and their care partners

  • Previous experience with a community-based agency

  • Willingness to participate in professional development and work actively with team members

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of dementia care and person-centred practices
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities
  • Cultural sensitivity and awareness of diversity
  • Knowledge of community, health, and social service systems in the region
  • Strong written communication and computer skills (Microsoft Office and client databases)

Additional Requirements

  • Valid G Class driver’s license and access to a reliable, insured vehicle
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Check (within the last 2 months)
  • Membership in a relevant professional regulatory body is considered an asset

Working Conditions

Work activities take place in office and community. Travel throughout Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland, and Haliburton are required. This role will have a particular emphasis on travel in rural areas north of Peterborough. Occasional evening or weekends may be required and may be required to provide support to other social recreation programs as needed.

Our Compensation Package

  • Grade 4 position with starting salary commensurate to experience:

$22.00 - 26.00 per hour (35 hours per week)

  • Competitive platinum level benefits package that rivals what is offered at many large corporations, fully covered by the Society*and includes Employee Assistance Program (*excludes LTD)

  • 15 days vacation, in addition to office closure between December 25 and January 1. All vacation hours are accessible to you within three months of your employment with us. Vacation increased to 20 days after four years of service

  • 18 sick days per year, 5 of which may be used for family obligation reasons

  • 5 paid and 5 additional unpaid emergency leave days per year

  • 1 Wellness Day after five years of service

  • Flex schedule options; During summer months staff may leverage flex time to take Friday afternoons off and enjoy the warm weather and all that our four counties have to offer

  • Option to work from home 1 day per week
