Job Summary The City of Mississauga is dedicated to developing future talent while meeting core operational needs. This opportunity provides registered co-op program students with technical administrative and application-related work experience in a municipal environment.

Reporting to the Manager, Zoning & Zoning Administrator, the successful candidate will assist with a variety of responsibilities, including prescreening of architectural plans and documentation for application acceptance, zoning research, updating zoning databases, and supporting technical staff with a variety of duties.

This role offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals in the Planning and Building Department and gain an understanding of municipal operations including plans examination & Committee of Adjustment.

Duties and Responsibilities Application Pre-Screening

  • Review application submission materials for completion of required documentation (cover letter, architectural plans, etc.) and confirm project scope eligibility.

Data Management

  • Input application data into land information databases and architectural plan review software.

Technical Administration

  • Triage stakeholder zoning research requests for technical staff.

Customer Service

  • Respond to stakeholders application status inquiries.

Technical Knowledge Development

  • Complete zoning training assignments.

Skills And Qualifications Education To Be Considered For This Competition You Must

  • Be enrolled in a registered three or four year diploma/degree co-op program at a Canadian post-secondary institution in Planning, Architecture, Civil Engineering, or Law.
  • Eligible for a work term during the specified period (approximately January to April).
  • Upload proof of enrolment in a co-op program when completing your application.

Skills

  • Reading architectural/civil drawings, site plans, surveys, and specifications.
  • Cursory understanding of municipal zoning, the Planning Act, and the Building Code Act (as they relate to zoning).
  • Proficient written and verbal communication for diverse audiences.
  • Customer service, conflict resolution and problem solving.
  • Working effectively in a team environment.
  • Proficient with MS Office, GIS and CAD.

Include the qualification: understanding of CZOA principles.

Hourly Rate/Salary: 19.80 - 23.53

Grade: PC

Hours of Work: 35
