Senior Financial Analyst (Firm-Wide Finance Department) - Canada (Hybrid)

Job Summary

We are currently looking for a dynamic and experienced Senior Financial Analyst (SFA) to join the Firm-Wide Finance Department. The successful candidate will have a strong work ethic, be collaborative, professional, adaptable, positive and interested in their work.

Reporting to the Manager, Finance, the SFA is accountable for treasury reporting and analysis and trust compliance and internal controls. The SFA will also be involved in financial and management reporting, planning and compliance.

Hours of work are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.. Occasional pre-authorized overtime may be required to meet business needs.

A part of the Firm-wide Finance team, this role can be located in any of the Canadian cities that Fasken has offices (Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, Calgary, Vancouver, Surrey). Hybrid work arrangements are available with occasional requirements as per business needs for onsite office collaboration and support. The successful candidate must live in or around their regional office and be able to commute to the office as often as required.

Primary Responsibilities

Treasury Analysis and Reporting

  • Prepare treasury and cashflow reporting packages and assist in the capital management and planning such as budgeting, forecasting.
  • Provide ongoing support in analyzing, interpreting and communicating results against budget or forecast.
  • Prepare treasury presentation materials for Management, as needed.
  • Provide scenario planning & forecasts to assist with capital management and planning to support the firm’s strategic objectives.
  • Manage and maintain the cashflow reporting system in Xcelerate, providing training and support to regional offices to ensure consistent and accurate financial data across the firm.
  • Suggest and apply strategies to improve how the company manages its working capital, focusing on using capital efficiently and effectively.
  • Maintain complete, accurate and well organized records in all areas of Treasury of the Firm.

Trust Compliance & Internal Controls

  • Prepare CDIC compliance schedules and support business units, as required.
  • Support the Manager, Finance in gathering tax schedules for preparation and filing, as required.
  • Prepare and update quarterly Law Society alerts.
  • Support the Manager, Finance in assessing and providing recommendations to improve the Firm’s Accounting Operations internal controls.
  • Responsible for analyzing and advising on the firm’s capital structure, including maintaining updated credit facilities agreements to optimize financial flexibility and support Firm initiatives.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of the firm’s financial status to banks, adhering to all bank covenants and regulatory requirements to maintain strong financial relationships and creditworthiness.

Finance Project Support

  • Supporting a variety of Firm wide projects with a focus on optimizing processes, structures, and automizing processes.
  • Support the tax and partner accounting functions, as needed.
  • Support the Manager, Finance with other related duties, as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is considered an asset; however, an equivalent combination of education, lived experience, and professional expertise will also be considered.
  • A CPA designation is required.
  • A minimum two (2) years’ experience in accounting and financial analysis at a senior accounting level (five (5) to seven (7) years total experience).
  • Sound understanding of GAAP/ASPE.
  • Experience analyzing financial data and preparing financial reports, statements and projections.
  • Proficiency with computer software programs including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Experience in 3E and Power BI is considered an asset.

Compensation

The typical salary range for this position is $85,000 - $95,000 annually; the base pay offered is based on location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, internal and market equity.
