ABOUT THE POSITION

Columbia Sportswear’s dynamic global supply chain consists of 4 distribution centers, 430 retail stores, 80 apparel factories, 20 footwear factories worldwide plus 3PL partners. We are looking for an Industrial Engineer at our Distribution Centre, located in London, Ontario. Reporting to the Manager - DC Engineering (located at our Distribution Centre in Portland, Oregon), you will provide professional industrial engineering services and expertise to Columbia Sportswear’s global distribution network.

This role focuses on developing and optimizing operational throughput, primarily delivered through cost comparison/feasibility studies, developing and optimizing layouts and processes, operations scheduling, change management, and equipment recommendations to ensure the product's most economical packaging/storage/retrieval. You will work to meet the global distribution network and stakeholders’ needs while maintaining high-quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely services.

This is an onsite position and not eligible for remote work.

HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  • Review and analyze material handling equipment and systems, recommending productivity changes and improvements, and contributing to overall cost efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain performance and quality statistics, assisting operational teams in problem-solving and decision-making, and promoting the development of continuous improvement methods.
  • Design and develop new process or system layouts, production operations, and implementation of material handling systems, including cost justifications and budgeting.
  • Review and analyze operations to determine the best flow of information and materials within and between departments, across the global distribution network, supply chain, and Columbia Sportswear Company.
  • Identify and provide supporting data for business risks and strategic opportunities.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain systems that contribute to effective information management across the global distribution network.
  • Collaborate with site and global leadership to identify and develop project planning strategies, defining requirements, scopes, and objectives.
  • Assist in the recommendation, selection, and management of vendors and the procurement of production equipment.

YOU HAVE

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in applicable field, such as Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Previous advanced experience with Industrial Engineering, with demonstrated experience in developing and implementing innovative solutions that drive organizational profitability and service levels.
  • Accredited Lean Six Sigma Belt preferred, and previous experience with statistical analyses and leading Kaizen events.
  • An understanding of and/or implementing experience with distribution operations, best practices, and automation.
  • Experience working with SQL and database reporting and query platforms, including Microsoft Power BI.
  • Previous experience within a distribution/fulfillment center (an asset).
  • Strong analytical, project, and product management skills, including a thorough understanding of interpreting business/operational needs and translating them into operational process requirements.
  • Accountability for ideas from inception to delivery, in an environment that requires robust metrics to confirm success.

Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000 annually
