Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the HR/LR Consultant will provide guidance and support to managers and other Human Resources staff on employment and labour relations matters. The HR/LR Consultant will exercise independent judgment and initiative in determining and recommending courses of actions when dealing with a full range of employee and labour relations services including; collective agreement interpretation and application, managing grievances, mediation and arbitration, collective bargaining, employee counselling, conflict resolution, performance management, organizational change, and development.
The Human Resources Department is currently seeking a Permanent Full Time HR and Labour Relations Consultant to join their team.
Effective Date: October 27, 2025
Essential Qualifications
- Four (4) Years Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations or related Business degree
- Certified Human Resources Professional (C.H.R.P)
- Significant experience in a broad range of Human Resources generalist roles with recent
focus on labour relations, preferably in a hospital or unionized environment (minimum
five (5) years).
- Demonstrated ability to embrace and manage change projects independently using a
consultative and consensus building approach
- Demonstrated ability to investigate and effectively resolve grievance issues
- Ability to investigate and respond to issues raised by managers, staff and union
representatives and provide recommendations and strategies for resolution
- Sound judgment, analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills used in assessing
situations and recommending appropriate actions.
- Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, advocacy and relationship building skills with
the ability to influence through facilitation and discussion
- Sound knowledge and understanding of current employment law, collective
agreements, and best practice HR policy/procedures
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically, and understand the impact of
decisions/actions on other functional areas of the hospital, including people and
financial implications
- Demonstrated ability to build trust , listen openly, encourage others to share their
opinions and respect diversity
- Facilitation, presentation and training skills with ability to develop training or
presentation documents
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively as leader or member in
teams, on task-forces and committees
- Commitment and ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, volunteers, patients,
members of the public and community partners.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, database and electronic document management systems,
HR database
- Demonstrated organizational, administrative and time management skills
- Must be able to fulfill the physical requirements of the job as per the current Physical Demands Analysis
Hours of Work
This is an on-site position, Monday-Friday.
