CKF Inc. has plants located in British Columbia, Ontario, Nova Scotia and the states of Iowa and Texas, manufacturing numerous types of food packaging and protective packaging.

Our Hantsport, Nova Scotia location is looking to hire a Welder to join our maintenance team. The Welder is responsible for welding and metal fabrication work required during installation, removal, repair, and preventive maintenance within a manufacturing environment. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Welder will be responsible for the following key responsibilities:

  • Welds plate/pipe and equipment on steam, white water stock, and compressed air systems; as well as rotating manufacturing equipment.

  • Fits and welds stainless steel, and aluminum products, and fits steel products either on new fabrications or repairs as directed.

  • Welding in all positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead) in both bench and field environment.

  • Heating/cutting assorted metals using oxygen/acetylene and plasma.

  • When not performing welding duties, assist other mechanical tradesperson as required (I.e., Millwrights & Piper fitters).

  • Performs all duties in accordance with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as Company and Government rules and regulations.

  • Maintains a clean work environment.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications**:**

  • Class “A” Welding certificate issued by Department of Labour.
  • Completion of trades school program preferred.
  • Current A.S.M.E. all position pipe ticket.
  • Five years recent and related experience in the welding trade.
  • Other mechanical experience is an asset.
  • Experience with stick, MIG, TIG, and wire feed welding methods.
  • Familiar with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as Company and government rules, policies and procedures, and regulations.
  • Knowledge in the use of computers preferred.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and blueprints.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Ability to take direction.
  • Ability to work as a part of the maintenance team to ensure manufacturing equipment is running efficiently.
  • Knowledge of the tools of the trade.
  • Must be able to work 8 hour days (Monday to Friday); and, willing and able to work overtime, as required.
  • General safety, Fall Protection, Confined Space, Lock Out/Tag Out, and WHMIS training an asset.
