JOB OVERVIEW

The design group is responsible for the development of new repairs or modifications in the turbofan aircraft engine. The major role of the design engineering specialist is to develop and to analyze new repair methods as well as taking the repair design through Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) regulatory approval process.

Responsibilities:

  • Interact with various stakeholders and disciplines (e.g component repair engineering, aero-technician, supply chain, tooling, maintenance, etc…) to establish statement of work for the proposed new repairs
  • Generate new repair procedure by analyzing the available repair methods and the component functional constraints
  • Review the existing repairs from the OEM engine shop manual, relevant literature or standard shop practices to verify the feasibility and practicality of the proposed repairs
  • Analyze the physics of the component to generate boundary conditions for the analytical models
  • Perform mathematical calculations, finite element simulations, and failure mode effect analysis to substantiate the new repair, according to the TCCA airworthiness manual standards
  • Assess the repair compliance with key success factors by testing, inspection or post-processing of numerical simulation results
  • Propose new solutions to improve the quality of the new repair
  • Create and maintain related documentation for internal and external approvals
  • Actively engage in technical discussions, quality audit review, TCCA technical meetings, …

Qualifications:

  • Mechanical, aeronautical, materials, manufacturing or equivalent engineering degree from an accredited university
  • Industrial experience in developing new repairs for metallic components. Minimum of Five (5) years relevant experience or equivalent
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics
  • Knowledge of solid mechanics, metallurgy, non-destructive inspection methods
  • Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency - Excel, Word, Power Point, etc…
  • Familiar with CAD software, e.g Solidworks
  • Familiar with finite element simulation software, e.g ANSYS Mechanical
  • Strong analytical skills and teamwork skills
  • Member or eligible to become member of the “Ordre des Ingenieurs du Quebec”

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiar with gas turbine engine design process and TCCA repair design approval process.
  • Currently having or had delegated engineering authority from TCCA
  • Knowledge of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, precision grinders
  • Knowledge of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments
  • Knowledge of special processes: Water Jet, Plasma, Shape Deposition Manufacturing (SDM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS), Shot Peening, Welding, Cleaning Systems.
