Location: Live on-site at Camp Kandalore – Algonquin Highlands & Various Trips

Contract Dates: June 12th - August 25, 2026, live on-site, room & board included.

Reports to: Director, Assistant Director - Camp Life, Trip Director

Camp Kandalore is seeking whitewater canoe guides to lead 4 – 12-day wilderness trips with campers ages 12 – 16 on rivers in Ontario and Quebec. Based on experience, canoe trip guide candidates may be considered to lead our Explorer Program, 21 to 24-day long river trip.

The Camp

Founded in 1947 Kandalore has a longstanding reputation as one of Canada’s premier canoe tripping camps. We offer campers an unmatched canoe tripping experience, starting from age 6, with the program designed to gradually introduce new skills and challenges as they get older. Core trippers exclusively paddle whitewater rivers with older campers.

Our canoe tripping program is an essential part of our identity and program at Kandalore. We are proud of the level of expertise and training that we offer to our Guides to support this program including Wilderness First Responder, Swift Water Rescue Technician certification, and a tripper training week. Kandalore has a subsidized certification program to support our trippers, and we offer these training sessions on site.

Job Outline

The successful applicant will work to facilitate impactful experiences for our campers through canoe tripping. This individual will be directly responsible for the safety, enjoyment and learning of all of the participants and co-staff on the trip. This individual will be enthusiastic, camper-centric, team-oriented and able to cope with a busy camp atmosphere.

Our Guides ensure the physical and emotional well-being of our campers and staff while they are on trip. Duties include assessing and managing risk, ensuring a culture of safety and inclusivity, administering first aid, managing behavioral issues, and facilitating outdoor educational programming.

This position includes subsidized training, access to pro-deals, room and board, canoe trip experience, and a fantastic summer at camp.

Responsibilities include:

  • Review camper med-forms with the nursing team.
  • Engage in camp life, activities, and special programs.
  • Complete post trip documentation: Staff, Counsellor, LIT evaluations, Damaged gear, Incident reports, etc.
  • Contacting camp for any risk management, behavioural, or route support.
  • Review camper dietary and ensure supplementation.
  • Keep accurate trip log and submit to Trip Director.
  • Deliver Kandalore's programming to campers both on trips and while in camp.
  • Being flexible to changing schedules.
  • Following risk management procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Certified with Wilderness First Responder (Kandalore offers course in the spring).
  • Certified with Swift Water Rescue Technician (Kandalore offers course in the spring).
  • Bronze Cross or higher is mandatory and no exceptions can be made.
  • Experience leading canoe trips in remote settings.
  • Experience with white water canoeing.
  • Experience working with youth.
