Elk Island Public Schools is seeking an educational leader for the position of Principal at Ardrossan Elementary, effective August 26, 2025.
The principal will be an ethical and decisive leader who leads by example and fosters an attitude of mutual respect at all levels of the school community. The successful candidate will ensure that all students have access to quality teaching and learning opportunities, and will demonstrate a sound understanding of current pedagogy, technology and curriculum. This individual will put students first, advocating for the needs of all students. The principal will be a strong communicator who consistently expects behavioural and achievement excellence. The principal will build trust and foster effective working relationships within the school community. This individual will be committed to forging new and innovative community partnerships for increased student opportunities. The principal will be knowledgeable and experienced in managing school operations and resources, including timetabling, budgeting, and scheduling a broad range of programs for students. This individual will participate in school and community events as an ambassador of the school and will demonstrate support of all students and their school-related activities. This individual will be expected to provide visionary, learning, instructional, organizational and ethical leadership. This individual will ensure that the school is ready and able to operate in a successful manner according to Elk Island Public Schools' policies and procedures.
Ardrossan Elementary serves approximately 610 students in kindergarten to Grade 6, with 39 teaching staff and 13 support staff. The school is located in Ardrossan, AB, approximately 10 minutes east of Sherwood Park, AB.
Ardrossan Elementary is a dual-track school offering an English program and a French Immersion program, both known for their strong emphasis on academics and leadership. Ardrossan Elementary community believes all students can succeed in our respectful, safe and caring learning environment. Ardrossan Elementary is also a designated Play and Learn at School (PALS) pre-kindergarten site within the Division.
This position is open to internal and external candidates.
As Ardrossan Elementary is a dual track school, strong belief, commitment and leadership with both programs is required.
Oral and written French would be an asset.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Conferring with students, parents and staff to find the best solutions possible to help students succeed.
- Developing innovative and creative strategies to increase student engagement.
- Building relationships with students, staff and families to maintain a positive school culture.
- Maintaining high visibility and accessibility during the school day, including classroom visitations.
- Providing leadership in creating opportunities for teacher collaboration.
- Setting, maintaining and modeling high standards of professional conduct.
- Leading the development, implementation and assessment of the instructional program.
- Supervision, observations and evaluations of staff.
- Effective verbal and written communications with a variety of groups and individuals.
Experience, Training, Requirements:
- Valid Permanent Alberta Teaching Certificate
- Minimum five years successful teaching experience
- Masters degree is an asset
- Successful administrative experience
