About the role

Scope of Position

WinSport, a non-profit organization and proud legacy of the 1988 Calgary and Canmore Olympics, operates key sport and recreation venues in Calgary and Alberta. As part of our Canmore team, the Facility Maintenance Technician supports the functionality and upkeep of the Bill Warren Training Center (BWTC), Spray Village Athlete Housing, and the Haig Glacier Summer Training Facility.
We are a small team that works very closely with each other and numerous Sport and Government organizations. This dynamic role requires diverse technical skills and adaptability in both urban and remote alpine environments—no two days are the same. Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular inspections of interior/exterior facility systems and equipment across all three Canmore venues
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and report performance issues in HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems
  • Perform repairs and maintenance on building systems including heating, ventilation, plumbing, water supply, sewage, and appliances
  • Carry out routine water/wastewater sampling and system documentation to meet AHS regulations (Haig Glacier and Spray Village)
  • Support general facility upkeep, including Custodial, drywall repair, painting, and seasonal yard maintenance
  • Assist with summer Haig Glacier camp operations (June–September), including loading/transport of supplies via Ranger Creek staging area and helicopter operations (long line, belly, and net loading)
  • Contribute to project planning, renovations, seasonal openings/closings, and maintenance program development for remote sites
  • Assisting other staff and Organizing Committees with Set up and take down of infrastructure for major and Minor Sporting events, weddings, and other functions

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven hands-on experience in plumbing, carpentry, or a related technical field
  • 3+ years of experience in facility operations or maintenance
  • Excellent mechanical skills and comfort working independently
  • Proficiency in reading and writing for documentation and communication
  • Familiarity with Siemens building automation systems and basic networking/IT knowledge
  • Basic First Aid & CPR certification required
  • Helicopter operations and rigging knowledge are considered an asset
  • Small Systems Water/Wastewater Level 1 certification considered an asset
  • Snow/landscape equipment experience (e.g., power broom, plow truck, snow blower) preferred

Physical Demands

  • Indoor and outdoor work across various weather conditions
  • Physically demanding with lifting, bending, and working at heights
  • On-call availability for emergencies
  • Evening and weekend work may be required
  • Remote location support (including helicopter and backcountry logistics)

About WinSport

The Bill Warren Training Centre (BWTC) opened in January 1994. The facility provides fitness training and support services to Nordic athletes and the public. The BWTC is located at the Canmore Nordic Centre. It was the host site of the cross-country skiing and biathlon events at the 1988 Olympic Winter Games.
