Senior Planner / Scheduler - Mining, Canada
Location: Saskatoon, SK
Your Opportunity
As Stantec's Mining group continues to grow, we have an opportunity for a Senior Planner/Scheduler to join our team in any of these locations – Sudbury, North Bay, Ottawa, Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, Vancouver, St. John’s, Fredericton or Halifax. The Senior Planner/Scheduler reports to the Project Controls Manager but on a day‑to‑day basis works in collaboration with Project Managers and project teams.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Collaborating with Senior Project Managers, Construction Managers, Project Schedulers, Cost Controllers and other team members including clients, the Senior Project Scheduler will:
- Develop, maintain and analyze Critical Path Method (CPM) schedules for complex study, detailed engineering, permitting and construction projects, including resource loading (labour & materials).
- Provide input and develop proposal schedules and bid documents to support business development.
- Engage in all activities associated with industry‑leading project planning, scheduling, forecasting, monitoring and critical path analysis methodologies.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineering leads, procurement specialists and all project stakeholders while developing project plans.
- Lead structured planning sessions with cross‑functional teams including engineering, procurement, construction and operations.
- Use proven facilitation techniques to ensure stakeholder engagement and consensus on schedule logic, sequencing and resource allocation.
- Develop Basis of Schedules with assumptions, exclusions and risks.
- Monitor and analyze project schedules to proactively identify potential baseline variances, impacts to milestones/deliverable completion dates, changes to resource requirements and feasibility of schedule execution. Collaborate with project teams to mitigate potential deviations.
- Review, analyze and monitor 3rd‑party schedule submissions for contract compliance, schedule quality and accuracy.
- Perform time‑impact and forensic schedule analyses relating to claims review.
- Provide input to weekly and monthly reports including narratives, schedule updates, forecasting, trending, analysis, opportunities and corrective actions.
- Perform Earned Value Analysis to determine productivity, understand project trends, and forecast realistic estimates based on data‑driven leading indicators.
- Participate in change‑management input to estimating, providing schedule impacts, “what‑if” scenarios and updating baselines with approved changes and planning additional work.
- Conduct schedule risk assessments and analyses.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of planning processes and tools by integrating lessons learned and leveraging industry best practices.
- Provide ad‑hoc reports, as directed by management.
- Teach and mentor junior staff, providing them with the opportunity to learn Planning, Scheduling, and software skills.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Experienced with engineering, underground mine development and construction.
- Familiar with environmental and regulatory requirements.
- Expert‑level experience developing engineering, procurement and execution schedules, resource loading and forecasting and tracking project progress using Primavera P6.
- Proven track record of positively contributing to a multi‑disciplinary project design, procurement and construction team.
- Strong task‑management skills, with the ability to manage tight deadlines and competing priorities across multiple projects.
- Demonstrated success in building trusting relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong leadership, communicative, analytical and adaptability skills.
- Proficiency with MS 365 Office suite, particularly Excel. Skills & experience with other software solutions (SAP, Oracle, Contruent, InEight, etc.) are also desirable.
- Experience with Artificial Intelligence platforms is desirable.
- Must be self‑sufficient, self‑motivated and possess the ability to multitask.
Education and Experience
- Professional degree in engineering is considered an and asset.
- Completion of a diploma or degree in a certified project‑management program is considered an asset.
- Completion of AACE PSP certification is an asset.
- 10+ years of related experience in a project environment with an engineering and/or construction background.

This role is typical of hybrid office environments, working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work (if required) may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
