About the role

This position is located in our Head Office location in Melville, Saskatchewan.

Reporting to the Manager, Data and Information Services in the Information Technology Division, this position designs, builds and maintains data systems and pipelines to ensure accurate, secure, and timely information for SCIC’s reporting and analytics.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design, build, and maintain secure, scalable data pipelines and integrations using Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, SSIS, SSRS and related tools.
  • Organize data into structured layers (Bronze, Silver, Gold) to improve quality, reliability, and traceability.
  • Implement technical solutions such as data masking, encryption, and access controls within data pipelines and platforms.
  • Configure tools to track data lineage and apply privacy safeguards, ensuring technical compliance with FOIP and internal standards.
  • Monitor and report on data quality and security issues to the manager for escalation when needed.
  • Monitor and analyze data pipelines to identify performance bottlenecks.
  • Tune and optimize transformation processes for speed, scalability, and reliability.
  • Investigate Data Lake ingestion and processing issues and take corrective actions.
  • Detect and handle unexpected changes in source data structure (Schema Drift) by updating pipeline logic and validation rules.
  • Partner with Actuarial and R&D teams to deliver accurate, timely data for analytics and other purposes.
  • Document technical processes, standards, and best practices; contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

What You’ll Need

  • To be successful in this position you will need the completion of a bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Engineering or related field and a minimum of three years’ experience in data engineering, including ETL/ELT, data modeling, and cloud platforms. Certifications in Azure Data Engineering is preferred.
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, Spark, Git; experience with Azure tech stack (E.g. Data Factory, Synapse, Purview, Azure Dev Ops).
  • Knowledge of data governance principles and privacy requirements (FOIP) to implement technical controls such as data masking, encryption, and access management.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve complex technical issues independently.
  • Excellent communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Should the successful candidate participate in the Crop Insurance or AgriStability Programs, their account must be in good standing.
