Position Overview: As a Bookkeeper, you will play a vital role in supporting the Financial Controller and General Accountant with the day-to-day operations of the Finance department while ensuring adherence to the Association’s policies and procedures. Your responsibilities will include month-end processes and assisting with the review of weekly vendor payments.

- Rate- $25.00/hour
- Staff Membership to YMCA Health, Fitness & Aquatics facility
- A values-based and supportive team environment
Location: Hybrid (flexible) working arrangement – 2–3 days in office
Office location- Peter Gilgan Family YMCA, 410 Rebecca Street, Oakville, Ontario
Work Schedule: Part-time, 15–20 hours per week, 3-month contract with the possibility of extension
Responsibilities
- Support the Financial Controller and General Accountant in daily finance department operations and help achieve departmental and organizational goals
- Participate in month-end tasks including but not limited to the preparation of journal entries, bank and other reconciliations, accruals, and cashouts
- Assist with the review of weekly vendor payments
- Work with Membership Service Representatives and other administrative personnel regarding daily cash out issues and cash handling procedures, on an as needed basis
- Assist the Financial Controller and General Accountant to ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures, and control protocols and take corrective action when required
Requirements
- Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance or related field, or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 2 years of full-cycle accounting experience
- Comfortable working with modern accounting systems
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Ability to extract, manipulate and analyze data from multiple systems
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy, with a strong focus on meeting deadlines
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team and demonstrate a high level of initiative and problem-solving skills
- Proven experience handling confidential information
- Current Security Clearance with Vulnerable sector screening
Desirable Criteria:
- Working knowledge of SGA software (Stock, Garber & Associates)
- Working knowledge of Active Net, Camp Brain and Digibot (registration systems)
