About the role

Senior field Service Technician The Senior field Service Technician is responsible for performing advanced construction, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, commissioning, inspection, repair, and technical field support activities related to utility electrical systems and associated infrastructure. This role serves as a senior technical field resource responsible for supporting complex electrical work, mentoring junior field personnel, coordinating day-to-day work activities, and ensuring work is completed safely and in accordance with customer requirements, project specifications, applicable standards, and operational objectives. The Senior Utility Services Technician remains actively involved in field execution while supporting quality workmanship, safe work practices, and successful project delivery. What will you do as a Senior field Service Technician? Demonstrate a strong commitment to workplace safety by following all electrical safety requirements, lockout/tagout (LOTO), energized work procedures, hazard assessments, switching boundaries, arc flash requirements, and safe work practices. Perform advanced construction, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, inspection, repair, and commissioning activities related to utility electrical systems and associated infrastructure. Install, maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, and support utility equipment including transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, grounding systems, substations, electrical distribution systems, control wiring, conduits, cable systems, and associated infrastructure. Lead utility construction activities including conduit installation, cable tray installation, grounding systems, underground duct banks, cable pulling, terminations, conductor installation, and electrical equipment installation. Troubleshoot circuitry, diagnose malfunctioning systems and equipment, and support corrective actions using testing equipment, diagnostics, technical expertise, and root cause analysis. Read, interpret, and apply electrical schematics, construction drawings, wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams (SLDs), technical specifications, work packages, and project documentation to support field execution. Support commissioning, energization/de-energization, startup activities, preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, outages, shutdowns, and operational readiness activities related to utility systems and infrastructure. Serve as a senior technical field resource by providing day-to-day guidance, mentorship, and practical support to Utility Services Technicians, apprentices, and junior field personnel. Lead crews or field activities by supporting work coordination, job readiness, material planning, and safe execution of work activities. Proactively prepare for upcoming work by reviewing project requirements, drawings, materials, customer specifications, tools, and equipment needs. Support quality execution standards by identifying deficiencies, escalating concerns, and promoting consistent workmanship and operational excellence. Support ordering of required parts, materials, and equipment while maintaining control of job materials and supporting work readiness for field activities. Complete maintenance records, inspection reports, and job documentation accurately and in accordance with customer specifications and company requirements. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times while supporting housekeeping expectations and operational excellence. Maintain professional communication and positive working relationships with customers, coworkers, contractors, and stakeholders across all levels of the organization. Participate in required training, technical learning opportunities, safety meetings, and professional development activities. Travel extensively to customer and project sites, including remote and out-of-town assignments, as operationally required. Support overtime, outages, weekends, emergency response, and varying schedules as operationally required. Perform other duties as assigned. Here’s what we’re looking for: High school diploma or equivalent required. Post-secondary education in electrical, power systems, utility operations, industrial electrical, engineering technology, or a related technical field considered an asset. Experience performing utility construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, installation, commissioning, or field service activities related to utility electrical systems required. Experience supporting substations, transformers, switchgear, grounding systems, electrical distribution systems, or associated utility infrastructure preferred. Experience mentoring, supporting, or guiding field personnel considered an asset. Working knowledge of applicable electrical safety requirements, utility standards, technical standards, and jurisdictional requirements relevant to assigned work preferred. Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record required. Technical aptitude, strong work ethic, sound judgment, and ability to work safely and independently in physically demanding and dynamic environments.
