As an Instructor, your primary responsibility will be to provide top-notch academic instruction to our students. You'll play a crucial role in ensuring that each student in your class has an enjoyable, productive, challenging, and meaningful learning experience. Duties
- Identify errors or changes to the curriculum to meet current academic standards and industry requirements and record them on the Faculty Curriculum Change Log.
- Review and suggest enhancements to course materials and resources for upcoming cohorts and share them with the Lead Instructor and Department Head.
- Participate in student sessions and events such as practicum information sessions, Story Time Event, orientation sessions, and other student presentations.
- Monitor the program’s effectiveness through student feedback and assessments and report findings to the Lead Instructor and Department Head.
- Implement instructional innovations such as new technologies and teaching strategies, including Active Learning strategies and Hands-On approaches to learning.
- Teach assigned courses according to the daily class outline and lesson plan.
- Prepare lesson plans and gather necessary teaching materials.
- Ensure the use of diverse, Universal Design for Learning teaching strategies and engaging methods to enhance student participation.
- Support students in submitting quizzes, assignments, and exams for current courses.
- Grade studentswork promptly, within 7 days of submission, and provide constructive feedback on Moodle.
- Maintain and promote a positive, encouraging learning environment for students.
- Use and follow the ELCC Faculty Classroom Strategies and Supports Guide and Tools.
- Work with the Lead teacher and Department Head to improve instructional skills and course content.
- Hold tutoring sessions for students both virtually and in-person.
- Track student progress to ensure students meet the curriculum gates.
- Maintain and Use Instructor Resource Binder for teaching classes
- Collaborate with the lead instructor to ensure consistency across program courses and campuses.
- Attend and participate in departmental meetings.
- Prepare and submit reports on student performance, program outcomes, and curriculum changes as requested.
- Ensure all courses are taught following faculty policies and curriculum standards.
- Prepare order requests for supplies and materials using the Supply Request Form.
- Ensure paper attendance copies are scanned into SharePoint and originals shredded for all cohorts.
- Maintain the Instructor Binder for use while teaching classes.
- Use the Instructor Flashcard System to improve course quality.
- Stay updated on industry trends by reading relevant journals, attending webinars, or networking.
- Host guest speakers or workshops related to current industry trends as requested by the Department Head.
- Attend community events as a program ambassador as requested.
- Share student and faculty feedback to adjust curriculum and teaching strategies as needed.
- Attend at least one professional development event (e.g., conference or workshop) per year.
- Update your knowledge base with recent academic research or industry trends related to your field.
- Implement retention strategies as directed, such as early intervention for struggling students, and communication issues to the Department Head.
- Promote diversity and inclusion in classroom discussions, projects, and student activities.
- Assist students with meeting curriculum requirements.
Education and Experience
- Minimum of Level 3 Early Childhood Educator Alberta Certification
- Minimum Early Childhood Education Diploma or equivalent education
- Training and experience in FLIGHT Alberta’s Early Learning and Care Framework
- Knowledge and/or experience in a variety of Early Childhood Curriculum Approaches (eg, Montessori, Waldorf, Reggio Inspired)
- Experience with Moodle, PowerPoint and Lillio (Formerly HiMama) preferred
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Clearance
- Minimum of Instructional Experience or Leadership in Early Childhood Education of 1-2 years
- Having an open-minded and holistic view of Early Childhood Education and the role of an Early Childhood Educator is preferred
