Come work with us!
The City of Leduc is growing — with intention. As one of Alberta’s most strategically located communities, Leduc is building a diverse, resilient economy that attracts investment, creates jobs, and supports long-term prosperity. We’re now creating a new Economic Development Officer (Investment Attraction) role to help lead that momentum.
If you’re passionate about economic growth, relationship-building, and telling a community’s story in a way that drives real investment decisions, this is a rare opportunity to help shape a role — and a city — from the ground up
What is the Opportunity?
This is a newly established position within the Planning and Economic Development Department, focused on attracting commercial and industrial investment to the City of Leduc.
Reporting to the Manager of Economic Development, the Economic Development Officer (Investment Attraction) plays a key role in implementing the City’s Economic Development Strategy and related action plans. You’ll lead investment attraction initiatives, respond to investor inquiries, build strong regional and national partnerships, and position Leduc as a competitive, investment-ready community.
This is a fixed-term role (2+ years) with full benefits, offering the opportunity to make a measurable and lasting impact on the City’s economic future.
What will you do?
In this role, you will drive investment attraction efforts and support business growth by combining data-driven analysis, relationship management, and strategic promotion. You will:
- Actively attract new commercial and industrial investment by implementing the City’s Economic Development Strategy, Investment Attraction Plan, and related initiatives.
- Respond to and manage investment leads from partners such as Edmonton Global, Invest Alberta, and Invest in Canada.
- Conduct market research and economic analysis, including a retail gap analysis, to identify opportunities and strengthen Leduc’s value proposition.
- Support potential and new investors throughout the full investment lifecycle — from initial inquiry and site selection through permitting, approvals, and aftercare.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with developers, site selectors, commercial realtors, regional economic development organizations, and government partners.
- Develop and deliver compelling presentations, tours, and investment proposals for prospective investors and stakeholders.
- Lead or support the creation of marketing and promotional materials, including sector profiles, community investment packages, sell sheets, and trade show materials, in collaboration with Communications and Marketing Services.
- Represent the City at conferences, trade shows, and investment attraction events, including travel.
- Support broader Economic Development initiatives, including business retention and expansion, workforce development, and regional collaboration, as needed.
- Manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment, balancing proactive investment attraction with responsive investor support.
Who you are?
You are a relationship-driven professional who understands how investment decisions are made and knows how to position communities for success. You bring:
- A degree or diploma in Business Administration, Economic Development, or a related field.
- A minimum of three years of relevant experience in business development, sales, investment attraction, or a related role (equivalent experience considered).
- Strong analytical skills, with experience using data, research, and market insights to support decision-making.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively.
- Proven ability to build trust and credibility with business leaders, investors, and public-sector partners.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- A valid Class 5 driver’s licence, with the ability to travel to meetings, site visits, and events within Leduc and the Edmonton region.
- Experience working in or with municipal government is an asset.
- An MBA or formal Economic Development certification is considered a strong asset.
You are adaptable, strategic, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift based on opportunity.
What we Offer?
Working for the City of Leduc means being part of a team that is actively shaping the community’s future. In this role, we offer:
- Competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package, including pension contributions, extended health and wellness supports, and paid time off.
- A unique opportunity to build and shape a brand-new role, influencing how Leduc attracts and secures future investment.
- The chance to make a direct and measurable impact on economic growth, job creation, and long-term community prosperity.
- A collaborative, values-driven workplace that emphasizes integrity, innovation, and partnership.
- Professional development opportunities, including exposure to regional, provincial, and national economic development networks.
- A free annual pass to City of Leduc recreation facilities, including access to drop-in programs.
- A supportive environment where your ideas, initiative, and expertise are encouraged and valued.
Important Notes!
- This is a fixed-term position (2+ years) ending on February 25, 2028.
- The selection process may include an assessment designed to evaluate candidates’ verbal, written, and presentation skills. This may involve preparing a short presentation or written materials relevant to investment attraction.
- The successful candidate must provide a current Criminal Record Check & Driver’s Abstract at their own expense.
