As the Senior Architect, you will:
- Lead the development of architectural designs from concept through construction, collaborating closely with design and project management teams.
- Coordinate architectural and project design across disciplines, ensuring clarity, quality, and alignment with project goals.
- Manage architectural designers and production staff assigned to projects, guiding them to successful completion of submissions within budget and schedule.
- Oversee project budgets and schedules for architectural work, ensuring efficient resource allocation.
- Serve as the project leader and primary coordinator between multi-disciplinary teams, maintaining clear communication and workflow.
- Apply expertise in building codes and project design philosophy to inform design decisions and ensure compliance.
- Prepare, review, and coordinate detailed design and construction documents.
- Identify and resolve complex technical and design challenges within the project scope, escalating issues as needed to meet project objectives.
- Conduct on-site observations, documenting site reviews and monitoring construction progress.
- Review submittals and substitution requests, respond to RFIs, and manage project changes during construction.
- Contribute to business development efforts, providing input to proposals and supporting the growth of the practice.
Technical Design & Documentation:
- Develop, review, and approve architectural drawings, construction details, and technical documentation, ensuring compliance with project requirements and regulatory codes.
- Prepare schematic design, design development, and construction documentation, maintaining accuracy, constructability, and adherence to industry standards.
Regulatory Compliance & Quality Control:
- Ensure all designs comply with local building codes, including the Ontario Building Code (OBC), National Building Code (NBC), zoning bylaws, fire safety codes, and accessibility standards.
- Oversee contract administration, including site inspections, submittal reviews, and resolution of technical issues during construction to maintain quality and compliance.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through clear communication, technical expertise, and strategic problem-solving.
- Represent the firm in project meetings, design reviews, and presentations, ensuring alignment with client goals and regulatory requirements.
Sustainability & Innovation:
- Integrate sustainable design principles and energy-efficient strategies into projects.
- Research and implement advanced building technologies and innovative construction materials to enhance project performance and design quality.
Qualifications:
- Licensed Architect (OAA Member) with a minimum of 10 years of experience in designing and leading architectural projects.
- Proven expertise in technical detailing, building envelope design, and construction administration.
- Strong proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and BIM workflows preferred.
- Deep knowledge of building materials, structural integration, mechanical/electrical coordination, and construction methodologies.
- Experience with sustainability standards, energy modeling, and high-performance building systems is an asset.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including mentoring junior staff and fostering technical excellence within a team.
- Excellent presentation, communication, organizational, and team-building skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Business development experience is an asset, with the ability to support firm growth through client relationships and project expansion.
