About the role
The SAP S/4HANA Upgrade Project Manager will be responsible for planning and executing an upgrade to the latest SAP S/4HANA release (2025 target). The role ensures the project is delivered on time, within scope, and compliant with governance and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities

Develop and manage detailed project plans, timelines, and resource allocations aligned with global program milestones.

Maintain RAID logs (Risks, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies).

Ensure compliance with SAP Activate methodology and internal governance frameworks.
-
Oversee all phases of the upgrade lifecycle: preparation, sandbox testing, development, QA, and production cutover.

Coordinate integrated testing (validation, regression, performance).
-
Manage change control processes and ensure business continuity during and post-upgrade.
-
Act as the primary liaison between IT, business process owners, SAP consultants, BASIS teams, and external vendors.

Provide regular status updates and executive reporting to senior leadership.

Identify and mitigate project risks proactively.

Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements (especially for industries like pharma or life sciences).

Drive change management, training, and documentation readiness.

Support user adoption and post-upgrade stabilization.
Qualifications and Skills
- 10+ years of experience in SAP Project Management.
- Proven track record in SAP S/4HANA upgrade projects (e.g., from 2020/2021 to 2023 or later).
- Experience in highly regulated environments (pharmaceutical, biotech, life sciences preferred).
- Strong knowledge of SAP Activate methodology.
- Expertise in Supply Chain and Manufacturing workstreams.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Familiarity with multi-vendor coordination and global project governance.
- Certifications: PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent (SAP-specific certifications preferred).
- Preferred: experience with complex integrations and custom code remediation.
- Understanding of SAP system architecture and BASIS activities.
- Ability to lead large-scale testing and cutover activities.
