The Business Development Specialist will be responsible for supporting the business development strategies for our Toronto lawyers, with a focus on proposal writing. The Specialist will also promote the firm by positioning our lawyers for nominations in various directories, awards and rankings, and providing support for client presentations, initiatives, events and conferences.

Key Responsibilities:

Proposals:

  • Drafts, assembles and proofreads strategic proposal documents that are compelling, engaging and client-centric.
  • Partners with and advises lawyers on effective messaging and strategies, focusing on client needs, differentiators and resulting value.
  • Works collaboratively with members of the business development team to develop winning proposal themes and business development content.

Awards and Directories:

  • Takes the lead on submissions to Chambers and other legal directories, awards and rankings.
  • Researches and writes content for nomination submissions.
  • Proactively coordinates content and approvals with the lawyers involved.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Conducts business intelligence and market/competitive research.
  • Supports lawyers in their individual business development plans.
  • Facilitates business development initiatives, including events, client presentations and substantive seminars.
  • Coordinates business development meetings with potential clients or referral sources.
  • Organizes conference sponsorships.

Qualifications:

Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, ideally in a full-service business law firm.
  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in Communications, Marketing, Business or Law is preferred.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of the legal industry and market.
  • Ability to manage multiple work requests simultaneously by effectively prioritizing and planning work.
  • Sense of urgency and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent client service skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, lead and learn.

Salary Range (Toronto Only):

$70,000 - $90,000 annually.
