About the role:
Reporting to the Manager Reclamation, the Lead Reclamation, Vegetation is responsible for designing and implementing vegetation management program and monitoring across the Elk Valley sites.
To be successful, we are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to build relationships across all levels of multidisciplinary teams. Someone with strong ecological understanding of local plant communities, successional pathways and ecosystems, outstanding attention to detail, strong financial acumen, who is adaptable, and able to prioritize demands in a fast-paced environment. We require an individual who has strong data management skills, outstanding critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, who can give strategic direction and lead a team. Someone who stays up to date on new technology but understands the foundational knowledge to be critical of where it might be successfully applied.

In this role you will:
- Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
- Oversee the development and implementation of large-scale reclamation revegetation and monitoring programs at active operations and surrounding areas. This includes site assessments, seed collection, seedling procurement, planting, seeding, invasive plant management, surveys and monitoring, data management and analysis, and GIS
- Understand and identify site limiting factors and develop strategies to mitigate them including working with research programs to trial new techniques
- Lead and supervise a team, including consultants and contractors, to implement large scale complex reclamation vegetation programs
- Work closely with each of our operations to execute reclamation vegetation programs to fulfill regulatory and permit requirements, production targets, and timelines that meet site needs
- Provide leadership and technical guidance for vegetation programs across EVR operations
- Build and maintain positive relationships with regulators, local Indigenous and communities of interest to seek input and feedback into our vegetation programs
- Provide detailed reporting on scope, schedule, progress and budget of reclamation vegetation related projects with focus on developing and executing thoughtful, cost competitive plans that meet desired outcomes
- Execute an innovative vegetation program built on continuous improvement of reclamation outcomes, processes and efficiencies
- Assist with preparing regulatory approval submissions and reporting, and critical review while acting as a subject matter expert for reclamation revegetation strategies
Requirements:
- Science or natural resource management degree or diploma in an environmental-related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum seven years meaningful experience in reclamation vegetation, ecology, soils and project management in an industrial environment
- Advanced technical knowledge in silviculture, vegetation ecology, ecological successional pathways, monitoring and data management, GIS, invasive species programs, climate adaptation, metal monitoring, and research
- Experience supervising and leading a team
- Solid understanding of provincial and federal legislation and regulations
- Experience working with First Nations, regulatory agencies, and local communities
- Excellent written and oral communication abilities are vital, especially the ability to communicate with a wide variety of stakeholder groups
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
