Job Description:
RESPONSIBILITIES:
PROGRAM
- Know and respond to safety and health care needs of residents
- Act as a role model for all residents as reflected by appearance, behaviour and attitude
- Perform Prime Worker duties as assigned by Residential Manager
- Provide support for resident’s personal development as decided through individual program planning
- Supervise and assist residents with meal preparation and clean-up
- Administer medication as prescribed and according to policies and procedures
- Support resident involvement in leisure activities (Christian Education, bowling, special events, etc.)
- Complete Shift Reports and update Communication Book
- Maintain pertinent residential records
- Support family involvement with residents, site activities and special events
- Follow and promote the agency’s and site program goals and philosophy
- Liaise with transportation companies, day program staff, other professionals, families, etc.
- Ensure learning opportunities are provided using agency and community resources
- Track, compile, analyze and make recommendations based on resident data
NOTE: The position of Residential Counselor – Primary Responsibility may also encompass the designation(s) of Prime Worker and/or, Counselor-In-Charge (CIC) as described below:
Designation: Prime Worker Attendance and participation in all program meetings and/or agency events as applicable
Qualifications:
- Completed 2-3 year Developmental Services Worker Diploma or other equivalent degree/diploma related to human services
- 3-5 years’ experience working with people who have developmental disabilities and/or mental health challenges
- Experience in individual program planning
- Valid Standard First Aid certificate (including CPR)
- Training and/or experience in medication administration
- Nonviolent crisis intervention, and behaviour management skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team to provide a supportive and nurturing environment
- Computer skills (MS Office, internet, etc.)
- Training and/or experience in personal care (i.e., assisting with G-tube feedings, continence devices) is an asset
- Training and or/experience in supporting individuals through ambulates,
mobilizers, transfers is an asset - Valid Driver’s license and French language skills are an asset
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $27.09 to $28.11 with a maximum of $29.13.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
