Job Description We’re looking for Junior Naval Architect Technologists to join our growing engineering team at Fleetway . This is a unique opportunity to contribute to Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy , supporting the Royal Canadian Navy through the design and delivery of complex marine systems and structures.
As a Junior Naval Architect Technologist, you’ll be part of a collaborative engineering team supporting the design, analysis, and integration of marine systems for government and commercial vessels. This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates or early-career professionals to gain hands-on experience in naval architecture while contributing to meaningful projects in the marine and defence sectors.

Responsibilities Design & Documentation
- Assist in developing and interpreting 3D models of equipment, foundations, piping systems (e.g., valves, fittings, hangers), and structural components such as decks and bulkheads for client vessels.
- Support the creation and interpretation of 2D engineering drawings, including parts, assemblies, installations, and arrangement drawings (e.g., general arrangements, firefighting key plans, piping diagrams, and power system schematics).
- Apply technical knowledge to help review vessel documentation, participate in vessel surveys, and validate legacy records.
Engineering Change Support
- Contribute to the review and implementation of Engineering Changes (ECs), which may involve modifications to ship systems, equipment configurations, or documentation updates.
- Assist in managing configuration changes that support the introduction of new capabilities or the sustainment of existing systems.
Analysis & Reporting
- Support the development of option analysis reports, help define system requirements, and perform basic engineering calculations.
- Assist in preparing impact assessments, technical specifications, and equipment selection documentation.
- Contribute to technical report writing for internal and client use.
Design & Integration
- Help develop technical studies, drawings, and specifications for both government and commercial vessels.
- Participate in systems integration projects, working alongside senior engineers and technologists to ensure cohesive design solutions.
- Support structural design and analysis tasks, including exposure to tools such as finite element analysis (FEA), weight assessments, and stability evaluations (e.g., GHS).
Qualifications Education & Experience
- A Diploma in Naval Architecture Engineering or a related discipline.
- 0–2+ years of experience in a technical or engineering role; recent graduates and emerging professionals are encouraged to apply.
- Exposure to or training in 2D drafting, 3D modeling, and engineering design/integration projects.
Technical Skills
- Familiarity with ShipConstructor is considered an asset, but not required.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Professional Skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative and proactive approach to teamwork.
- Solid organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience working with Naval Warships or within the shipbuilding industry is considered an asset, but not required.
Successful candidates must be eligible to obtain required government security clearances.
