The Opportunity We are seeking a Junior Transportation Engineer or EIT to join our growing Edmonton office. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about transportation design, construction, and project management which directly contribute to community‑shaping infrastructure projects. You’ll work alongside senior engineers, technologists, and designers to deliver projects ranging from roadway design and rehabilitation to greenfield construction.

This position is Edmonton based and offers the flexibility of remote work.

What You’ll Do

  • Supporting the design and analysis of roadway, intersection, and other transportation projects in rural and urban environments.
  • Preparing horizontal and vertical alignments, cross‑sections, grading, and design details using Civil 3D.
  • Assisting with the preparation of technical memos, design reports, cost estimates, and tender packages.
  • Completing construction supervision and contract administration in support of project delivery in the field. Including project management, construction survey, and materials inspection as required.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across Alberta and Western Canada.
  • Contributing to proposals, project coordination, and client communication as your experience grows.

What You’ll Bring

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • 2+ years of relevant transportation engineering experience (co‑op experience counts).
  • Eligibility for registration as an EIT or P.Eng. with APEGA.
  • Familiarity with Alberta Transportation and/or City of Edmonton design and construction standards is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Civil 3D is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A collaborative mindset and eagerness to learn from senior mentors.
  • A valid driver’s license and ability to conduct occasional field work.

What Can We Offer You? The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $120,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
